Walking home yesterday from our neighborhood swimming pool, had both kids in the stroller, passing a house around the corner from mine that I'd passed hundred of times in the 5 years I've lived in this area. Every time, I've noticed the cars in the garage or in the driveway, but this time, the owner was out front and I struck up a conversation. Asked him about what he had. Of course, the Shelby Cobra was recognizable, but the other car was not. Turns out, he has an original 427 Shelby Cobra, a replica 289 Shelby Cobra and the third car is an original Shelby Cobra race car, that he says only about 6 were ever built. This one, which looks to be all unpainted aluminum, I thought looked like a stingray corvette in the front, the rear was like a boat tail. Very unusual. I can't even imagine what that thing must be worth. It has a 289 in it as well. He has had the 427 Cobra for 30 years. I think he's made a bit on that investment. I asked him why he bought a replica 289 if he already had the original and he didn't really have a good answer for that. He did say that the 289 was a much more driveable car, the 427 was just way too powerful for the size of the car. Now, next step is to wrangle a drive in the 427.....
