I have found that a lot of people who go K04, just decide to go bigger after a short time. I'm not sure if anything is ever enough. I'm skipping over the K04 when turbo time comes.

The K04 is definately better than the K03 in terms of power. That's the only reason one would buy it anyhow.

A chipped K03 is running at the edge of it's performance limits and the K04 is far more comfortable at the higher boost pressures that the K03 programs use.

The biggest benefit is that it is a bolt on part whereas, other turbo's are not made by Borg Warner and they will require you to have a new exhaust manifold, intake pipe and exhaust flange.

I can't see a reason why the K04 would be less favored than the K03 chipped.

in terms of $$ to HP ratio, the chipped K03 is better:

    1. the k03 is already in your car so, it's basically free.
    2. the chip raises power to the 200HP area so, you gain about 50HP.

The K04 isn't going to make the same gains in power. You might get another 10-15HP from it but, torque can reach close to 250 Lb. Ft.

i love my k04 and i only had it in for 2 days. enough said. there is no question about it that its the best all around turbo kit out there for the money. it gives you a good amount of power. you retain stock driveability and its somewhat affordable. now if your looking for crazy power this isnt the kit for you. you need to get a t28 pes kit or an apr. but if your looking to keep the stock feel of the car but desire some power this k04 kit by awe is awesome. i love the sound the turbo makes. cant get enough of it.

if you're chipped and plan on going for a big turbo kit in the long run, then the money is better spent on suspension

What about the Neuspeed Super K04 as compared to the AWE K04?

I had an APR chip in my first A4, now I decided just to go straight to a K04 for my second. Unfortunately financially I'll never go for an APR stage 3 or T28 kit.

I'm still undecided on what kit to go with for my 2000 A4.

    1. AWE K04 with K05 programming, then possibly upgrade to a FMIC with the J31 programming.

    or

    2. Neuspeed Super K04 kit.

I'm basically waiting to hear more about the Neuspeed kit, my mod money kitty to grow, and hopefully a sale or something that will make me pull the trigger.

The J31 software kicks some major arse!! I'd get that software over the NS for the MY00's..
