Ko4 and P&P manifold are in

First off, big thanks to Neo for helping me out this past saturday

The install went really really well.. I have done a few Ko4 installs on B5's before, so doing this wasnt "hard".. I will say that working on the B6 is sooooooo much easier than the B5's, there is just more space to take the turbo out etc..

Moving at a decent pace, Richard and i got everything out (turbo+manifold) in about 3 hours or so.. Not to shabby at all

At this point, we took an hour for lunch and then got back to work putting in the "new" stuff in.. Everything went in as easy as it came out.. We had the car running about 3 hours after lunch..

So as of now, im just running my Ko4 + manifold w/ my Giac Ko3 software.. No check engine lights etc.. I will be going to ND later this week to get my Neuspeed software and injectors installed, but for the mean time im just gonna run the car like this..

The car is noticable faster, but nothing crazy.. I guess i should rephrase that and say that the car feels alot more stronger than it did before, pulling harder to red line etc..

Now, before you guys get all mad at me for not post pics, Richard has them and will be posting them sortly

I will say that we ran into 1 "major" problem during the install thou. After we had gotten everything back together, i guess i had forgotten to tighten the oil return line back on to the oil pan

So when i went to fill the car back up with oil, it went right through the motor and on to the ground

Not a big deal, just a very very "NOOOOOB" mistake.. Nothing that a bag of kitty litter couldnt fix

So i just tightened the bolts back up, and an added more oil..

Yeah man, it was pretty funny when I was outside and I heard "F*CKING SH*T ASS OIL" hahahaahahaha... *MOTHERF*CKER..WHY THE F*CK... Oh man I was like.. what the hell? And came back to see you with a pool of oil hhahaha.

Anyways... the install is a medium difficulty install. If you have a lot of tools (flex joints are necessary as well as a lot of extensions) this should go fairly well. Also, it is nice to have the Bentley manual to know how to get to certain parts of it. John is good at these things, so it helps a lot. If you're not good at cars... I wouldn't attempt it.

It also helps to have a second hand. I did a lot of "assisting" to get the stuff done faster. The bottom cat-turbo bolt goes a lot faster with two people.

Finally, having the turbo out means taking out the manifold is ridiculously easy. It takes like 5-10 minutes once the turbo's are out.

Anyways here's some pics:

This is the K03 in its stock position. The right of the picture is the front of the car, the left is the back of the engine bay. I'm taking the picture leanign over the pass fender.

This is the k03 out. You can see how easy it is to take out the manifold now.

K03 vs K04... k04 on the left. Looks pretty much the same..but its awesome nonetheless.

Comparison of Stock to Ported manifold.. it's harder to see in the pics, but in real life its really a nice job they did.

One more thing.. I bought these mechanix gloves this week that have LED lights on the pointer finger... they're awesome. You can turn them on when yuour in a tight area and see everything. I don't know what I'd do without them now. Anyways.. John is modeling them right here:

I do admit, i enjoy working on my car like this.. It saves soo much money doing stuff on your own, and it feels so good when its all done and everything is working like it should

Maybe ill try and put in my Cam instead of having someone else do it..

Coilovers
Front BBK
Rear Rotors/Pads/Lines
Sway Bars
Exhaust (well some of it)
Turbo
Manifold

I think that it wouldn't be that hard?

You just need a jack, jackstands, a whole variety of metric sockets in both 3/8 and 1/2 inch fitments and extensions and flex joints. There are other things, but most of the other stuff you can just buy at a local hardware store.

At some point, if I do the same to my car, we'll see if we can do a step by step writeup of how to do the install.

Doing the swap didnt require that many tools..

Just a normal set of Metric sockets, extensions and some flex joints.. Maybe a few screw drivers for odds and ends as well. Thats really all the tools you need to do this swap..

So you did the swap without software and injectors...and the car is not running to lean... how long you recommend to drive like this ...im not understanding to much this whole turbo kit stuff...i have a e05 sitting in my house for over 7 months and havent put it on cause i can find freaking injectors and i keep spending money on other mods instead of injectors...let me know if i can just slap that puppy in and get the injectors some time in thenext month

Im not sure about the E05, since its a larger turbo than the Ko4. Im sure you'd have some problems with the E05 running on a Ko3 chip, but im not to worried about my setup now.

Ill have the software+injectors put in next week, so ill just be driving around in my MB till then

But i would think running this setup long term couldnt be a good idea.. Dont quote me on that thou.

Call David at Pro-Imports.. tell him that you know Richard (the guy who bought the KW's, Stoptechs, H Sport Sways from him).. he sells the TT injectors. I'm sure he'll work with you on the price.

Sweeeet....Did you have to torque the bolts to a certain # when you installed and bolted everything back up?

Bently recomended ~25nm's or so, which is basically hand tight for most of the bolts.

Richards Torque wrench only goes down to 45nm's..

Thanks man! I keep trying to modify it tastefully... but really teh only cosmetic mods have been s4 bixenon ecodes and tint. Otherwise everything else is mostly performance oriented!

Hmmm let me check... I don't know actually. I think the biggest might be 1024 x 720 or something like that. I'll let you know.

ND didnt do my exhaust manifold, the recomended a local shop thou.. It was about ~$155 bucks to have it ported, and another $200 if i had wanted to get it Thermal Coated..

A really good deal..

Im sure there are local Machine shops in your area..
