I'm not particularly sure as I'm unfamiliar with GIAC programming for the S4, but I would guess that the X-chip runs more boost than a regular GIAC chip. That is, of course, assuming there is a regular chip and an X-chip for the S4.

I would ask Jeff Moss for more info as he is a GIAC installer. Either him, or other S4 drivers running GIAC software.

The X-chip is your best bet. GIAC makes a S chip, but it is really really really weak. I only use it down here in Arizona during the summer so the car won't ping. Get the X-chip and you won't be dissapointed.

    Brad,

Well the GIAC X-chip differs from the Standard chip in that there is more timing, boost and modified aggressive air/fuel ratios. The GIAC X-chip for the Audi S4 runs approx 1.3-1.4 bar whereas the standard chip runs at a 1.1 bar boost.

I guess it really all depends on the type of fuel you are able to acquire at your local gas stations. X-Chip was made for 93-94 octane. You can also run 100+ octace if you would like as well.

you can find your local/closest GIAC reseller at www.giacusa.com.

I use PES Tuning for my modifications. www.pes-tuning.com

"X-Chip was made for 93-94 octane. You can also run 100+ octace if you would like as well"

Incorrect, X chip adapts from 91-94 octane on its own. Also If you were to run higher than that it would be a waste of money. For a 100octane program you want XR chip which is the race chip which is designed for more hp with higher octane. Also the X chip on an S4 you will hold at 1.1-1.2 bar, and have occasional spike as high as 1.46 bar for a split second.

Refer to his link for more info on the X chip. Sorry I have not had any experience with the S chip, although I have talked to a Tiptronic owner that downgraded from X to S b/c his tranny torque convertor fried and I believe turbos blew. I run X in my tiptronic with no problems so far.
