    What is my redline?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As far as i can tell on my tach., the redline is at about 6200rpm. My car is chipped by APR. Does the APR chip raise my redline? If so, to what?

just bouce it off the redline in 2nd gear, and youll find it. it wont hurt anything the rev limiter is there for a reason. then you'll know where your limiter is and you can adjust accordingly.

bounce? doesnt a chip remove your rev limit? or was that your speed limit. Or both? I revs close to 7k and thats dangerous enough for me. Screw this wait till it bounces business. ;P

it doesnt remove the rev limiter, it moves it up like 200 rpms, nothing drastic, and it removes your governor that is at 127 or 128 or something. you cant over rev the car, itll hit the limiter and kick the rpms down a little, in case you somehow forget to shift. haha. it wont hurt it though, just dont drive around bouncing it off the limiter all day. you gotta shift sometime you know.

I think its originally at 6500 or 6800 RPM, the chips usually put it to 7100 if I recall correctly...

yea, i think its around 6800 stock as well.. chips make it 7100 or 7200. although its still not really beneficial to rev that high when driving, i think you get the most power when shifting lower where the redline starts.

dukez.. what does that pic have to do with anything?

Does this also apply to Tiptronics? If I let it rev in 2nd gear without upshifting will it hit the revlimiter or is that only on manuals?

you can put it in tip mode and never touch the shift button, it will shift for you if you hit a high enough rpm.

yeah cause poles has a tendency to just move and slam itself into cars, tricky poles.

be careful with downshifting as they dont have a downshift rev limiter... wrong gear=boom not rev limiter

When you say downshifting, do you mean dropping down a gear, and letting the rpm's rev up or letting the rpm's rev down? Cuase i wouldn't see the difference if downshifting rather than upshifting and letting the rpm's rev up. Seems like the same thing, or not?

good peice of advice right there... same thing applies to trying to drive spirited when your not good at shifting yet, if you hit 2nd instead of 4th your effed.

NOT THE SAME THING!!! When you are stepping on the gas and let the engine rev too high the way the rev limiter works is that it cuts off the fuel to the engine. But when you downshift and the car revs too high its because the momentum of the car is causing the engine to turn that fast and therefore there is nothing that cutting off the fuel can do. Therefore...bye bye engine.

Also, just to clear something up... letting it hit the rev limiter isn't "good." it causes a very lean condition in the engine due to the cut off of the fuel. obviously hitting it once isn't the end of the world though.

yea, thats what i mean, you can bounce off it once to see where it is and it wont do anything, but obviously dont make a habit, youve got a shifter for a reason.

for instance you see a guy hit you up on the highway and you drop down to 4th gear to hammer on it, if you miss and get into second you are shit out of luck.
