    Cutting The Fender

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright I have the one piece headlights (thanks Rieger_RS4) and I have a wiring harness from ECS Tuning. Now all I have left is to cut the fender where the old turn signals were to make way for the one piece headlights.

Any ideas? i'm broke and can't afford a professional to do it, and I got about 50 bucks in my pocket for the job. What tools do I have to buy? Any help on the procedure?

also now that the clear corner mod was done on the projectors...what's a good turn signal bulb?

Just grind the fender with a dremmel/grinder tool. Search here on and AW for all the info you'll need.

Use silver spray paint if you want to save cash on the turn signal bulbs. Just remove them and spray then with a few coats. In the daytime you cannot see the ugly amber color. But they'll still blink amber.

You'll have to cut the fender either way. Shop around, a dremmel tool isn't very expensive. But you'll probably go through a few attachments grinding it down. You may also be able to rent the tool from a local harware store/Home Depot/Auto Parts store.

After, you should prime the surface to avoid rusting. I'm pretty sure there's tons of write-ups on this subject both here and on AW.

I don't know if you have one of these stores around, but when I went to Gatlinburg this past winter, they had I guess you would call it a wholesale Black and Decker store. Well anyways, I bought B&B's version of the dremil for $20 brand new, and a box of all the attachments(cut off disks, sand papers and all) for like $10. So I'm sure if you do some shopping around you could find one. Hell, check ebay. And like DDQ said, you can just spray a few light coats of silver spray paint on the bulbs. Happy searching!!

make sure you buy the right cutting disc. I did this last week and as with any mod with two sides, the first one is always a b*tch and the second one is always a lot easier.

i used a black and decker grinder from home depot, i think it ran me about $39, came with a bunch of grinding bits but it didn't come with the steel/metal cutting discs so you'll have to buy those seperately.

lastly, get some masking tape to cover around the fender and bumper.

    good luck

I say do it yourself, and in the end you'll have a dremmel........other then just paying for the labor.

BTW. You know anyone who can roll fenders in our area?

Lol. I was gonna post something like this today.

I'm cutting my fender right now too. Actually I have one side done and the other waiting for me to get home.

I used a dremel and grinding disk and it was taking forever being my first time using a dremel. I would recommend using the CUTTING DISKS only. Grinding will take forever and will heat up the fender way too much and it stinks.

I would also suggest protecting the close parts of the fender and bumper incase you touch it by mistake with the tool.

I will post after I do the other side tonight. Good luck and don't cutt-off too much...I did :(
