    Automatic shiftknob

Is there any way I can put a manual shiftknob onto my 1996 automatic shifter? I tried putting it in 3rd gear and trying to take it off like in the tiptronic shiftknob guide, but it won't come off the same way, although the button will pull out partially. Thanks.

You pull the button out, then start pulling on the knob. It takes a lot of force to get it off, just be careful, it can pop and then you'll smoke yourself in your face.

Will I need that aluminum tiptronic adapter? I can't seem to pop the button out, and even when I pull the button outwards, and then pull up on the shiftknob as hard as I can, it won't come out. Any tricks to this

The button doesn't actually come out.

Pull on it as far as you can get it out, then start working the shift knob up. You might need to get something to help it pop off.

Have you read the instructions on how to change the shiftknob?

Yes, I wasn't sure if it was the same as the tiptronic shiftknob, though. I'll go take another shot at it again. Thanks man.

I had to use a covered screwdriver to help pop it off. Just be careful not to damage it

Anyone have a place I could upload pics? the leather part of the shiftknob came off, but now I'm kinda stuck as to what to do, considering nothing else seems to want to come off. I just took some digital pics.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it, driving around with this will look like crap without a real shiftknob :-p

Wow, you busted that stock knob up something aweful. Did you push the plastic chrome sleeve down before you started pulling up on the tip knob?

After you pull the button out as far as it will go, you'll just need to pull up on the rest of the tip knob and it should come up. As Ripple said, it takes quite a bit of muscle, and be careful not to pop yourself in the face.

I changed mine out awhile back with one of these...
