Has anyone had Jury Duty?

I have to go in for Jury Duty next week.. GREAT.

And it's at the Redwood City Court thingy thing...same place they're having the Laci Peterson Trial......

Anyways, anything i should expect? What to wear?

i got out of one cuz i was called in during college...but being a hour and 15 minutes from home, i got out of that one..

dont know how i can get out of this one. uuurgh.

i have tried sending in a notice stating that i would be out travelling for business and got another notice a few months later indicating that if i didn't show up then a warrant would be out for my arrest. went to the court house and ended up being selected for a panel then got dismissed because i said that i carry a pocket knife.

And if they ask you if it would be a financial hardship to serve...just say yes, they will usually let you go.

If not ...just tell them you have a biased opinion of whatever the trial might be about.

I always mark down that I was convicted of a felony...and say that I'm the head of the household and cant afford to take off of work..that usually works..or has, so far <knock on wood>

got one when i was 18. had to go and got put on a jury .. man that shit is BORING!!
Last one i got was 5 years ago and i got out of it cuz my job wouldnt pay me for missing work. Havent gotten one since.

But if I did i'd throw it away. They dont know it it was delivered or not unless they are tracking them now.

this is what sucks!!! my parents sold their house in october 03..i haven't used my parents address in two years...

the paperwork has my old address...but they found me anyway!! UUURGH!!!!! i cannot escape.

why they go to ask you about your opinion on things... tell them "I hate white people, I hate black people, I hate judges and lawyers, I think the legal system is ****ed. I am all for the death penalty, and I think If I were selected as a juror I would find the defendant guilty just because its his fault im here in the first place"

I had to go this past May. I was there for about 3hrs then got called into this room with all the lawyers. They told me what I thought about the case, how two people got hit and killed by a cop on a sportbike.
Well that was my out. I told them two years ago I was hit by a truck on my bike, and I thought that it is not fair how they point fingers at those who ride bikes, and that the cop was in the wrong.. I got a "thank you and have a nice day"

They pay you $5 every day for jury duty. $5 freaking dollars. That means you loose out on -$80 (if you get average pay) you would regular make at work per day. I had jury duty summoned once. I filled out the forms and sent in my submission as a able juror. The trial was like 4 months later though, and i completely lost track of the juroy duty business. I dont believe its my fault. The courts didnt even send any reminder mails for me. So i guess I'm a fellow felon now along with Evil eh. Aw man I cant run for congress anymore. Headline: Duke skips out on Jury Duty. Dont vote for him..

A fellow co-worker at my old job did that once, he was dismisssed. It was come case with a guy vs the police. My firend said that he has been abused by the police once. So they didnt want him on the jury. haha. Get out of that shit Dawn, juror duty is useless.

5 bucks wtf- I got out of it by saying that I think all lawyers are crooked and I started to mention some cases like the won. the case was that some guy was caught robbing a house and cut himself on the glass and got 35K. So the lawyers didnt like that one.

imply that you're prejudiced. not necessarily racist, but that you don't like stupid people or something. don't be middle of the road, be one or the other, that way the attorneys won't want you.

you can say that you're the only person at your work that does your job and you'd be screwed if you were gone for a while, i've used that a bunch of times.

it sucks they don't compensate people even decent. that's probably why the court system is so messed up, either super bored people or idiots are the only ones who can't figure out a way out of it.

Right when i turned 18 i was summoned. It is so boring i don't even want to do it again. i got paid like $7 a day plus miles that i had to drive to get to the court house. I wish i could have just threw away the paper i got, but if i went to jail i would most likely be the first one raped because of my bleached blonde tips. Once in the court room with the lawyers, they started to question everyone. The trial had to do with some job crap. I didn't really pay any attention. When they asked me if i had any prior knowldge about anything to do with this case, i replied "yes, this same thing happened to my cousin and its stupid how they get treated like that" after that my jury duty was done. I was happy, all in all, i was there for 3 days and about 3-4 hours each day(cept the last day ). I only make $56 for the whole thing, and if i would have worked i would have made around $125

I had jury duty a few years ago. This was a real ballsy move but it worked for me. Went in casual attire. At that time my job/profession was exempt from serving as a juror. That rule has been lifted, so when the time comes, I hope to be sent home.
