    B5 A4 99.5+: Dual Rear Fog Lights

Things You Will Need: Power drill and 1” boring drill bit (Dremel with cut-off wheel can be used), 1156 bulb, Compressed Air.

    Mod Time: .5 hour

Difficulty (1 to 5, 5 being the most difficult): 1 – Very easy, little trimming and replacing a bulb, that’s all it takes.

Step 1 – Accessing the Taillight Tray
Remove the small box that is wedged in the corner by the passenger side brake light by pulling it straight up.

Take off the two clips holding the carpeting in place.

You can now pull back the soundproofing carpet and access the taillight tray.
This tray is held in place by three clips. Unhook them one at a time, and then pull the tray forward.

You will see the taillight and the plastic piece blocking access for a bulb.
This piece will have to be removed in order for a bulb to slide through into the taillight.

Step 2 – Opening up the hole
At this point, you can remove the taillight from the car to work on it, or leave it in place. (I found it easier to remove in order to clean it out nicely. Just unscrew the few screws from inside and the taillight slides out.)

Using either a drill or Dremel, cut the plastic back giving enough room for the bulb to pass through.

Clean up all of the plastic bits that were created when opening up the whole. Compressed air may help to get them out of the taillight.

Step 3 – Installing the Light
The bulb tray will have an open position at the top of the tray. It is already wired so all this requires is placing a bulb in the tray.

Insert the bulb and twist to make sure it’s locked in place. Replace the tray in the taillight with the bulb passing through the new hole you opened up.

Test to make sure the bulb works by starting the car and turning on the rear fogs. You should now have both fogs on.

Once verified, put the carpet back in place securing it with the two clips. Then replace the small box and you’re all done.

You can now enjoy a second fog light. Be sure to use it only when necessary.
