My sunroof is alllllll effed up, please help....

So last night I close my sunroof to wash my car...everything is fine. Don't notice anything while im washing or drying. And then I leave to go get some starbucks....i twist to the right to get it to just pop up, not slide back...and it makes 3 horribly loud clicking noises. I don't really think much of it.....and then I go to bucks' and get some coffee with some friends, I come back to my car and notice that only HALF of my sunroof opened. The other half is stuck shut. So i go out and and I switch it down and it closes, and then i turn it back up and push on the side that was stuck....to no avail. Soooooo now its really ****ed up. The drivers side rear(toward trunk) is down below the roofline as if it were in the position to slide back, and the passanger side front is kinda sticking up above the roofline, the passanger rear is kinda down as well. It won't slide back either, that really is a bad deal.

So my question to you is, what the hell do I do. Is there anyway to get this thing back on its tracks? Am I going to have to take this to AoA or what? I really don't have tons of flow, so the cheaper the better fella's. Thanks in advance, and any help would be appreciated.

Its hard to say. Sounds like the guide rails or something got messed up, seems like it could be jammed. Don't know how to attack this one.

So i took it to AoA.

    $1200-1400 fix

Said they'd have to replace the whole track.

I have no idea what to do.

Seriously, do it yourself. I know I wouldn't spend $1200 for something like that unless I absolutely had to. Find out how much the parts would cost by themselves at least and see if it makes sense to you. The hardest part would probably be getting the headliner out. I think I read somewhere that you have to take a lot of other bits out to get to that point.

Oh man, I wish. If you knew me, than you would know that it is best if I don't try and fix anything. I always **** shit up. There is absoultely no way that I could try and do this myself. Not to mention the lack of tools and time on my part. I'm going to look around, and see if I can get anyone to beat AoA's 85$ ph shop rate :/

read some DIY guides to repair it before you rule it out, you could ssave yourself a hell of a lot of money that way, maybe youve just got something blocking the track and you can clean it out? who knows, whatever the reason is, make sure you do all you can before you pay someone to do it, thats some extra mod money right there if you get it done without having to fork over a grand.

Sunroof fixes are pretty involved. You have to remove A LOT to open it all up.

Here's the ultimate write-up for the sunroof fix (pdf file, obviously): http://davidt7.home.comcast.net/docs/audi_sunroof.pdf
"Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Yeah, it really is something that is going to be out of my grasp. Plus, I need it to be done in 1 day, so i don't have to miss work. And the sunroof is really tweaked out, it's much more involved than just unsticking something.

Just went out and ****ed with it some more. Got it to slide all the way back.....but now it won't close. However, I think this is better than it was because it's not all tweaked out now. Now I think it is just a plastic jam. When I go to switch it closed, it makes a bunch of shitty popping noises, stalls, and then go's back. It's like the pin is going forward, gets binded, and then goes back as a safety measure. This is all without the sunroof actually moving forward. I can't get any movement out of it....anyone?>

Your guides sound like they're toast. Search on AW, and see the link I posed above. You'll likely need to replace the plastic rail guides. Not a simple fix, there's no secret to it.
