    Unhappy Ko4 problem need help please

    i just installed my K04 kit (AWE) and now im gettin some random boost problems. boost seems to spike to about 18 then surge from 15-18 back and forth quite rapidly. it will eventually stop and stedy to 15. sometimes ill hit 20+. i notice it more in 4th and 5th gear. i dont know why it doing this and it doesnt feel too healthy would love to find out how to fix it

    also if im cruseing in gear without my foot on the gas my A/f guage reads one bar in the red. why would i run lean when im just rolling in gear?

    also think i smell some coolant burning but my reservoir is still full and i cant find any leaks. when i stop the car and open the hood with the car off it sounds like something is frying (cant explane the sound)

    kinda freakin out cause the damn thing isnt working right could it be the software??

    Did you update your MAF? 97's have a oddball MAF that doesn't seem to get along with a K04. Give AWE a call they know whats up. there should have been a letter about the updated maf with your kit.

    no i didnt update the MAF( it did say you might have to change it in the directions) it is kind of expensive so i didnt wanna get a new one if i didnt have to. do you think it would cause these problems? i emailed AWE and they said to check my vacume lines, DV, and N75 valve. but idont know how to test my DV or N75

    can you get a differnet MAF from ECS?? i was looking real quick at the prices and they had cheaper MAF's than the stock replacement

    I think I recall someone selling a MAF in the classifieds.

    I have also heard that others had issues with the '97 MAF with the K04 kit.

    I paid $60 for a used one...otherwise apparantly the dealer is gonna be selling rebuilt ones for $80.00 bucks real soon you just order the normal part# and add a X at the end.

    The cheaper MAF's that ECS sell won't work with the AEB motor.

    ok so i still need one for the AEB motor. then what would be different? what year was it changed?? if i were to get a used one dont wanna end up buying the same thing i have in right now. oh yeah and how hard is it to change the MAF ive never payed attention to where the thing is

    037906461C is the part # for the updated MAF they changed them in 98-99 I got a used one for $60.00 look here www.car-part.com full retail is about $350-$400

    By the way mine came from a 98 Golf 2.0 same part # as the 98-99.5 AEB MAF

    if you just installed the kit then the coolant you smell is likely the left over burning off from what spilled when you pulled the coolant lines off of the turbo... it will go away with time... you have to give the car about a week to adapt to your new software, if the problems still persist then maybe check your BPV.
