    B5 S4 brakes...

im thinking about pickin up a set of calipers... but i dont know where to get rotors from...

avanteix had suggested that i get em from ECS tuning.

is that a good place to go for rotors?

i have so many questions about braking systems cuz i really dont know much about them at all...

    1) regular? slotted? drilled? which ones do i get?
    2) brake pads? which ones...
    3) SS brake lines? are these really worth it?
    4) brake fluid? why motul? why cant i just get standard brake fluid?
    5) is the install hard?
    6) what about brake bias?
    7) do i need to change the rear braking system?

    i think thats about it...
im sure ill come up with more...

my car is a daily driver and i really dont push it that hard...

in fact i think the only reason im getting these is because im getting wheels soon and i want something a little... bigger to fill in the back of the wheels. and also... the stock B6 A4 brakes are kinda... (for lack of a better word) mushy

im not going autoxing so i dont need like TOP OF THE LINE anything. i just want something thatll perform better and look nice behind the wheels

Well im doin same mod ...heres my take ...Im goin w/ Ecs slotted and cross drilled rotors that are made by Zimmerman (mainly for looks, its not like i need tremendous braking power) I figure on upgrading the lines and the fluid just to finish up the front brakes nicely . Im not sure about pads right now because most dont have sensors(dont really like that ) Not upgrading back brakes yet but in future may ...I believe a few people have just upgraded front brakes and done it themselves ....Alipor on Audilounge did a how to on the install

I have changed my S4 rotors 4 times already. It can be hard to find a nice match. At first I had two sets of stock rotors that both vibrated. I then had a set of Disc Brake Australia long life slotted rotors and they vibrated horribly. I emailed them about the problem about a month ago a they replaced them with an updated pair for free about 2 weeks ago. They no longer vibrate and are fantastic.

So far, I've replaced my OEM rotors with ECS OEM 2 piece floating slotted rotors. It's the same size as OEM so I can use the original caliper and save 23% in unsprung weight. The pads are now Hawk HPS which has more bite, but they've been prone to become loose inside the caliper (a lot of rattling).

For brake fluid, I flushed out the OEM fluid and replaced it with Motul RBF600. Haven't touched the brake lines.

With this setup, I've experienced stronger and shorter stopping power without unwanted brake fade.

I chose this setup so I can still use my OEM 16" wheels for winter use and still have performance stopping power all year long. I'm getting many benefits from BBK designs, but at a fraction of the cost.

Question: can the B5 S4 caliper fit onto the B6 A4 3.0 rotor? That would be a nice upgrade from a single piston to a two piston caliper setup.

Here is the set up i'm currently running with my B5 S4 calipers:

rotors from ECS = Zimmerman slotted and cross drilled
    Neuspeed SS lines
Mintex red pads (they have sensors)
Prestone fluid (don't know very much about fluid; always used Prestone before without having trouble)

The calipers have been completly rebuilted. The install was very easy; it's bolt-on so no major problem. I didn't do any changes to the rear brakes; still stock.

I've seen major brake improvment, a lot more stronger, shorter braking distances. No vibrations at all.

The bad point is that they are noisy probably because the rotors are slotted and cross drilled instead of just slotted. But it's also depending of the temparature, humidity, etc.

But I have to say that was the first time I did brake mod, I haven't change any parts yet. I can say that I'm fully satisfied with this set up exept for the noise. This mod really worth it for the price.

    Hope this will help

I'm running Hawk HPS, Stoptech SS lines and Zimmerman slotted by ECS. Terrific initial bite without any noise. I didn't touch the rears (except for a previous pad change to EBC greens). Fluid is ATE Typ200. This is a great set up for my application. The car is so much more predictable during hard braking.
