    Dealerships Suck

I just got my Uncut Switchblade remote in the mail. I figured I would call some local dealerships to find out how much it would cost to cut the key, and they told me they wouldn't do it unless I purchased the key there. They said that if they made a mistake, then they would only cover it if it was purchased their.

    What should I do?

They also said their is a chip specific to our cars... immobilizer, that they have to program in order for it to work. WTF are they talking about???

some keys now a days have a chip built into the key. so if there is no chip in the key, the car won't start.

My car is a 98, and the remote does not have the trunk button on it.
    Does that make a difference?

The A4's dont have "pop" trunks (don't know about the knew ones). Meaning they wont automatically pop open when you unlock them. So a trunk button would be useless. Pressing unlock twice on the remote will unlock all doors/locks. You'll still need to press the keyhole button for the trunk to open. I like it better this way vs "pop" trunks.

did you tell the dealer what year your car was? 98s don't have the immobilizer or a chip in the key fob. Tell them you bought it from another dealer, hand them a key to copy and tell them not to mess up.

    Thanks Zodiak.

What years do have an immobilizer?

I'll drop hammer, that's for sure.

It's those damn parts counter guys. They don't know squat about the actual cars. Zodiak has it right. Just tell them what they need to hear to get it cut. If they still bitch, find another dealership and make a note of your findings here:
