    GIAC-X max boost?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just got my vent boost gauge installed and I noticed that it peaks at 15-16lbs. Usually the boost holds at around 15lbs and rarely goes any higher than that. I've got the Forge 007 valves w/ the yellow springs. Any advice? Are these correct readings?

Well in bars....I hold at 1.1(15/16psi)/1.2(17psi) bar and I've spiked at 1.46(21psi) bar.

  3. #3
Wow, the highest it's ever spiked was at 18lbs, but I rarely see over 15lbs.

    yo.
i have the same chip on a 2000 with an AWE center vent boost gauge, and i will see 20-21 psi, but usually tapers off to 17-18psi.

r u kidding me? are you sure you're not running the xr chip?

i thought it was the x chip, but it could be xr. i should probably know these things. i had it installed this spring.

    no kidding, all boost.

  8. #8
wow that seems really high boost levels for the X chip. Careful you don't toast your turbos with that chip. :P

the x chip should hold at around 18psi and spike at about 21 at least that is how mine is

definitely check if u have a boost leak

did u get ur chip new or used cause if it is used make sure u have the most up to date software on it

Yes these numbers are correct for X chip. Like I said before check for boost leaks and like Doo said update the software. But I think your leaking somewhere.

Another thing is, that while driving people seem to miss what the gauge spikes at b/c it is so quick. Have someone else watch the gauge while you are driving it to make sure your not missing it since you dont have the max/peak hold option on your gauge.

the XR chip is a race gas program... if you didnt know you had it, and youve been running 91/93 then youd know it cause your car would ping like mad.

FYI, the last version of the x-chip was supposedly producing an average of 1.2 to 1.3 bar according to GIAC's old website. I believe V.7 was 1.1 to 1.2.

BTW, there is also an XRR chip which is geared towards road racing (better timing) rather than flat out drag racing like the XR.

I know, the language you quoted sounds shaky, but their older website did state those numbers; I should have just put "IIRC." I know they all spike, but i thought v.5 (not "v.7" like I wrote, that's APR sorry ) could not average 1.3 like the current version since the smoothness of the chip was improved so much (the smoothness is the biggest difference anyway).

At any rate, I have also spiked at around 1.43, but stay pretty much at 1.2 with taper down to about 1.0.

My dads S4 is running Giac x-chip and people say its not that smooth, but once we put the awe-twin-2 then a k valve in it it runs a lot smoother then when it only has chip intake and dv's.

hero, the n75 is the wastegate bypass regulator valve located in the rear of the motor(its stock). If you have the correct software, the ECU will open the wastegates at the right rpm and dump valves via the N75 valve to limit the boost. Some people also use the MBC in parallel to make sure you limit the boost so it doesn't spike at +19 psi. However I will put money on the fact that you have a boost leak, pressure test the system and go from there before you start adjusting or replacing(n75) or adding(mbc) parts. BTW for questions such as these you are better off searching the Audiworld forum or asking the members. As for the chipswitch if you are talking about the IBE 2, I heard that they are having problems with this version 2 and that they are going to be releasing the IBE3 soon to take its place, I havnt heard anyone that I know personally that is using it.

Is there any way to tell which version of the GIAC software I have? I believe its v8 but for all I know they could've lied to me about which version it was.

I could have sworn I replied to this yesterday, guess it didn't post. Anyway if you open up your ECU box and look at the chip. You will see the GIAC chip soddered on and it usually has a GIAC sticker with a blank spot to write the Version # and prob the date updated. So just open up your ecu box and you should know. Be very careful not to f-up the chip.
