Heck my PC laptop can do that! What is impressive is nice LCDs that have inputs for various connections so you can plug your TV into your LCD, or your PS2, GC, XBOX, etc. They can even do PiP!

I built a HTPC just for that purpose. Plays Divx (and all the variants), DVD's, Music CD's, MP3's, records live TV, timeshifts, has a wireless keyboard and remote/mouse.

I need to get an HDTV to replace my 36" tube. But picture quality is up to par with standard DVD's.

HDTV's have a higher resolution than normal NTSC TV's. A regular TV only has a resolution of 640 x 480. You can push higher resolutions through a PC/Mac into the TV but it will just make the text blurry as hell, and make things generally look awful.

If you have the space (and a dark enough room) I would suggest a nice projector. I was thinking about one, but the way my "home theater" is set up I just don't have the room. And I can only imagine what my 4 year old son would do to the screen.

This forum is the most informative resource I have found. Check it out.

this is what i have. the key to good lookin text is a high quality compent cable, mine sux so some text is still kinda blurry. UT 04 is sick on it tho. so is Tivo, XBox and DVDs as well. i highly suggest spending the money on this. worth every cent in the long run. movies are awesome. for anyone really interested in this, i can post pics if yu'd like of the home theater setup me and my dad made

Most HDTV's have DVI connections on them. I just hook up the computer's video card to that and viola! Instant 30" 16:9 monitor....
