    2008 A6 Rear Brake Pad Replacement - VAG-COM

    What's up, everybody?

So I went to replace my rear brakes, and realized that I needed a special tool to decompress the pistons in order to fit the new pads on. Once I got the tool, I realized there must be more to it as it still would not decompress. Apparently, the VAG-COM is needed in order to put the car in service mode to allow this as the emergency brake is electric.

That said, does anyone know if I can do this on my own? Am I able to buy the VAG-COM cable for this, if so, which one in specific? Also, which software would I need? I see you can get the 409.1 (2004) for about 10 bucks on ebay, but is this old software current enough to do the trick, if not, can it be updated?

Aside from all of that, is that the only way to go about DIY rear-brake replacement on this thing?

    Thanks.

You need VAG-COM, battery charger and the usual stuff (jack, pads, tools). The battery needs to be hooked up the the charger while you replace the pads. There should be a DIY on the web. I'll post a link if you can't find it.

Thanks for the reply. I found a few DIY, but none of them explain how to use the VAG-COM and I don't remember any that mentioned the battery charger. Do you know of one that does?

You realize that this is the C5 A6 Forum? There is a C6 forum.
