I'm so amazed with the turn out!!!!!

Mucho props to everyone that showed up! (Everything worked out in the end EVEN if you thought it was too early! But we KNEW we'll all be on "asian time" and we scheduled accordingly)

We only had two bail on us (of 13)! YAHOOEY!!! our flake percentage is definitely diminishing! (i think i might come out of retirement on gtg event planning)

Great pick on the trail dave!!!! I loved it! (although I might have held up "group A" from time to time! sorry guys!! )

arnold: thanks for the new tip "always look down, not at to the top of the hill" - next thing you know i'm at the top! WHOAH!

I think I'll invest in a pair of clipless pedals now. Mt. Biking is so fun!!

p.s. i'm way more sympathetic to the bikers, er rather bicyclists on highway 9 now.

Yes...it was good to see so many people show up. Hopefully, the newbies had a good time too. The Saratoga Gap is not a true beginners ride, but our group did very well I think. Our big post-ride lunches were well deserved!

Sounds like Arnold provided a great tip. Here's another one to add to the collection... Look at where you WANT to go, not where you DON'T. If you see a big rock in the middle of the path and you try to stare it down, it will just suck you in and you WILL hit it.

I would've loved to have joined you guys. Sounds you guys had a blast. All I did today was visit an automobile museum and saw some classic Audi/BMW/Benz/Porsche heritage cars. Then I went to a local brewery and had some German beer.

Thanks for setting up this ride, Dawn. It was a good day for a ride. I'm glad my little tip helped you conquer those climbs.

It was also nice seeing everyone who showed up, new faces and old.

Thanks also to Dave for a nice choice in trail routes. I definitely need to start riding more so I can keep up better with the fast crowd. Time to get a training routine going...

Wilder Ranch just north of Santa Cruz is mostly fireroads (if you ride legally) with some singletrack sections. There's quite a bit of fireroad climbing as you start the ride at the bottom. The view of the ocean on the way back down is awesome. Did I mention that there's a good amount of climbing?

There's also a trail called Pogonip. You start at the bottom of Highway 9 (on the Santa Cruz side) and ride up to UCSC campus. Coming down, you hit some very good singletrack. This singletrack is pretty fast and has some technical sections. Might be something to think about when our beginners get a few more rides under their belts.

I'd be happy doing the Gap again. It was a workout for me.

That was a good day Mtn Biking. Thanks so much to Arnold for lending me the bike and to Dave for lending me the helmet. My thighs are so damn sore today, but its a good kind of sore. I need to get back into shape so I can attack those hills better. This trip makes me want to get a bike again. ***slaps head for selling the Ellsworth***
