Need help My car is running lean?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I have a 2002 A4 1.8t cvt, I had the apr trial and I went in today to get a giac chip, they had 2 problems. They told me they cannot bypass the apr trial system and that I would have to go back and flash it back to stock. The other problem is my car is running lean? Iam not sure what that means, If anyone can help me on this. I just put in a boosted tech intake system 3 weeks ago, I had a evo intake before that, would that be the cause of running lean? or is it due the the apr trial?

    thanks

Damn APR trial program BS. They should seriously take responsibility for this.

Your issue is either the APR stock program is crap and is causing the car to run lean . . . or you’re having a sensor issue and are running lean.

Running lean means that the air fuel mixture is more towards the air end of the spectrum. This will cause your car's exhaust temps to soar. Higher internal temps can cause premature detonation, both very bad. Running rich means that you have more fuel then normal in the mix. Runs cooler, but also runs very dirty . . . lots of carbon deposits due to unburned fuel. Lean is not good at all, neither is rich . . .

Get rid of the APR programming ASAP have them flash you to Audi spec stock . . . and then go REVO or GIAC serial programming.

    HI.

    do what mark said.

but you also could remove the intake and clear the codes, see if that caused the problem. if no luck, gots to be the apr files.

btw, i sent pm to ethan2.

Take the intake out. If its still lean. You know it wasnt the intake. Simple.

so its nothing to do with my cai intake? That is good to know I would hate tp take it out, Has anyone ran lean with a cai intake? I did not know I was running lean until my giac turner told me, and that i would have to get my ecu flash back to regular stock since they cant bypass the apr stock program and my cel has been on after the trial has ended which the dealer told this could happen but there was no problem. So I will have to go back to my dealer and get it flashback to stock or I might just stick with apr since this is becoming a hassle since any chp is better then stock. What is strange is that after today my car feels like its chip for some reason, it tends to pull hard and car seems faster, the turbo sounds louder since I notice it spools up faster, hmmm. I thought it was in my mind but I drove it around couple times and I really notice it, Does anyone know what has happen?

I did the apr trial and i didn't liked it at all.
I hope my car has returned to stock mode after that trial if not,
    i think i have a problem here.
and for the next days after the trial i felt like if i continued whith
the chip but i think i was just my imagination.

i have heard/read of instances of getting lean conditions w/ CAI but as others have suggested put it back to stock and clear the code and see if it comes back...then you revert your ecu back to stock clear code and see if it comes back this way you're working on one variable at a time and are able to figure out what is the culprit.

you know from my understanding the back to stock is never really stock but something similar. maybe there way of making want to get chipped. Just not as fast as before and maybe slower than stock. It wouldn't suprise me if companys did that. I mean you wouldn't go to a dealer I got a trial chip and it running a little funny.

well, I know for sure some how its chipped, The car really pulls and it picks up really fast, the turbo spools up quicker and louder. I thought it was my imagination but its not its a big difference from when I went to the giac turner. its strange but I like it. But I think there is no way the giac chip could of bypass the apr trial. anyone knows what has happen? I still have to go to my dealer and reflash since I have a cel on after the apr trial ended.

I think for liability reasons, the GIAC dealer did not want to touch your car, since your car is already running lean like you said. I would bring your car back to the APR dealer, and demand they remove their SHIT out of your car back to STOCK, not their expired residual garbage that "claims" to be stock. Your GIAC dealer depending on what you are installing, should be able to clear the APR crap as well directly into the K and W line, but I'm not sure if their flash software could even read your information. The best way to approach this (if APR doesnt do anything) is have the GIAC dealer manually unsolder and erase the EEPROM chip (old school way), and reflash the chip on a EEPROM programmer.

    Good Luck

    -Jeff
