July 18th ALMS Carshow Update and Directions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
OK some updates.... for those who registered, check back on this thread for more updates as the event approaches.

-Roll-in starts at 8am on Sunday, July 18th (the earlier the better, coz i myself wanna see some action too and don't wanna sit at the gate waiting )
    * i suggest to have 1 or 2 caravans so it's easier to give out stuff.

-Carshow registrants should go to Gate 7, will call booth and pick up your tickets and free goodies... i will be there to distribute them.

-Then you will proceed to the track through Gate 7 and will have a special Car Pass so the marshalls will know where to lead you.. to the show area which is in the paddock behind the grandstand and/or one of the turns (will update later)

-Car show starts at 10 after everybody is settled, they will judge the cars, but i don't think you have to be by your cars... you can leave you car and enjoy the races at the grandstand or paddock.

-Carshow award ceremony will be done towards the end of the race before the parade laps.

-Parade Lap(s) will follow right after the ALMS grand prix race which is at the end of the day. (only car show registrants will be allowed to lap the track)

    see you guys there!

    ------------

for the FormulaDrift registrants, i will email you the info since not a lot of cars regitered so far.... basically the same setup as ALMS.

    30V,
Logistics: so for those buying admission thru you, do we need to roll in at the same time you're at the gate?? or anytime since we would have our tix/passes waiting at will call?
P.S., FYI, I saw somewhere that the first race (Touring cars) is at 8:55 AM, and that the Speed GT race is *after* the ALMS race. so, then, is the parade lap before the GT race or after? Thx!

i will be there before 8 to pick up your tickets, those who registered thru me, i will have your tickets not at the will call booth but i will be by the mazdaextreme will call booth at gate 7 to distribte your tickets and goodies... you are right, there will be some early races, so if you want to watch like myself, better be early and so i don't have to wait for late peeps!

as for the parade laps, it will be after the last race of the day (as far as i know so far, it could change, but it will be announced) one time they did a lunch break parade laps.

Anything after Speed TC? Some of us have to drive back to socal. I would like to drive the parade laps, but I hope to drive Sears Point in November with the Audi club, so I just may pass on the parade lap. (it's much more fun at full throttle any way)

Don't forget to buy some earplugs because the ALMS cars get mighty loud and will rattle your eardrums after a short while.

Ken: so you're certain that the parade laps follow right after the ALMS race or is it after the Forumla Ford race, which is the last race of the day???

Nah, this ain't the Norcal/Socal situation. Sonoma PD understands as do the local CHP. I rolled by more than a couple and even got a smile and thumbs up for my front europlate

Lolo Ken, since we know from this past weekend that the temps are gonna be high, we're definitely coming strapped with gear this weekend. However, did you ever find out the dealio with regards to full on tailgating, i.e. BBQ'ing? I know the RV's do and I realize that we'll be roaming around the course from turn to turn (though many will no doubt chill in the grandstands), but Howard's got a point that the concessions were so outta hand this last time, we should just bypass them if we can. Plus, I'll bring my camping stove if you wanna bring your grandma's Dinuguan for a little snackage

(check it out "Manong Ken's Dinuguan recipe")

yes but this past weekend, there was only 1 or 2 food vendors... you've been too past years ALMS, they have lot of food stands during ALMS, get a big bbq plate for only $3 or a big tri-tip sandwich for $3.00.... so i'm not worried about food at all, maybe alcohol! hehe... we'll talk about it later, i don't think you can bring your own stuff if we park inside the paddock area, maybe if you park outside. i'll find out, but i think that rule is outta Slipstreams hand, you can go ask Infineon directly.

good one on that dinuguan curtis hehe.

Benny, no problem on CHP and local PD in sonoma, even in laguna seca! this is ALMS and not import drag racing , those cops are "race-fans-too-bad-they-have-to-work-that-day" guys... so they'll understand!

    Pickup time and location

You say that we should pick up our stuff at Gate 7; that seems awfully far from the parking area. Why gate 7?

Aren't you concerned that you'll be stuck waiting for latecomers, especially with the first race at 8:55am?

I figured you'd use the normal will-call location, given its proximity, but also so that you could take off at 8:45 or so and leave the tix with the regular willcall folks. We can always get our freebies from you later.

In any case, I do plan to be at gate 7 by 8:30; I'm just curious.

    Re: Pickup time and location

Mazdaextremestreet Carshow Will call and all carshow participants will be entering through Gate 7 and depends on the number of the registrants, carshow will be behind the Main grandstand and/or turn 7 area (which is close to Gate 7).

I will figure everything out later this week after i talk to Slipstream guys.

curtis if you are going to bring out the apron and bbq let me know, i'll bring another canopy and more food stuffs. only problem is i don't think we'll be able to set it up anywhere where we'll have a view of the track.

Yeah, I know that there'll be time when folks will be roaming around the track, but in between races, especially if it's as hot as it was last weekend, I think the canopy will be really helpful (see pic of everyone huddled in the shade). Regardless, I'm sure we'll have drinks and snackage at the least!

BTW are you autoXing on Saturday?

    Hey Ken,

do you know if we park around turn 7 or will it be the other side of the paddocks?

For those that haven't seen Infineon, pretty far walk for those who want to go back and forth turn 7 and grandstands. A bike is a good idea - although I'm trying to figure out how we'll bring one with the TT

Can we really have enough canopies/shade? If you bring yours, Dawn, that'll be three?

just in case some of you don't know Infineon.... if they were to set us up behind the grandstand, we can't really stay there by our cars under a canopy all day... how can you watch the races? Isn't that the main reason we're there for? .... main grandstand seating is awesome, shaded and relaxing.

also if they were to put us down the turn 7 area, not a lot of view of the track unless we stay where we stayed last weekend. which i guess the canopies will help.

so after i find out, then we'll decide how many canopies we need to cover the whole infineon race track!

In case anybody is new to Infineon....

I plan to come from Santa Clara via 280 to 37. I don't plan to caravan, because I usually run late and its easier to "make up time" without getting a ticket if you are alone. ;^)

Well, its probably 45-50 minutes to the GG bridge, and another 30 after that to the track (watch out for radar traps approaching the track).

30V, so are the main grandstand seats open to first come first served then? I've only been to Sears for ASSCAR and the grandstand seats were all reserved seating, but I suppose ALMS event might be more laid back?

Any solo drivers headed out to ALMS that registered with Ken? My brother is looking to be your 'virtual' passenger to use the 2nd person pass. He'll split your registration costs with you. We should be at Gate 7 by 8:30 am at the latest. Let me know if you need a rider to cover some of your gas fees!

    another update....

Roll in is between 7am - 9am , Carshow is at Turn 7 area (just down the hill from where the Audi Corral) for those of you that knows Infineon, it is the closest lot from gate 7, where they held the formula d event last sunday.

i also got the first priority to take the spots closest to the track so we can setup canopies there and watch the races up close, and be the first group to go for the parade lap!... it will be quite a walk to the paddocks though since turn 7 is far from the main grandstand. so, i suggest for everyone to be early coz if you guys are not there around 7ish-8, they might give the best spot to other people! i know it is hard to wake up early but i will be happy if we can take the spot they offered to me first!
