Depends on what your getting shipped.

Best way is to have it sent USPS. Postal office charges 5 bucks for brokerage, not the outrageous amounts that UPS and Fedex charge.

    How's it being shipped.

Brokerage fee will add up because its based on value of the good. Don't forget you'll have tax on top as well.

Its being shipped by ground, either USPS or UPS. Hopefully USPS. Taxes suck! Just thought... If the exhaust was originally mine, then a buddy took it to the US on his car and is sending it back, why would i have to pay taxes on that? Seems figgin pointless to me.

Well it all depends on how it was shipped back to you. If marked properly you won't have to pay taxes.

If your gonna use UPS, just tell the company where your buying the item from that you wish to "clear your own item" that why you can avoid the UPS brokerage fee. You'll still have to pay taxes.

Also as a back up. Get the tracking number ASAP (before the goods reaches the border (Customs)) and call UPS and tell them you wish to "clear your own item".

Once the goods arrive, UPS will notify you and you'll have to go to where ever your goods is and UPS will give you some forms to fill out for Customs. UPS will send you to Customs and there you'll have to pay your taxes. After that, you'll have to go back to UPS and show that you've paid for the taxes and then UPS will give you your goods.

    Thats what I did...

I guess that method you hope they come across the boarder close to home. Or are there specific locations?

I also "cleared customs" myself for my wheels and Sportec kit and saved $$$. UPS is the worst in Canada, they are notorious for high brokerage fees. As Ed stated, call them and tell them you want to do this yourself. Not only will you save some $$$ but no bumpy truck ride for your parts.

Basically they come into the airport then?
    That wouldn't be so bad.

Actually, the goods are sent to the main location of UPS, depending where your located. In Montreal, it was near the airport. So was Customs.

Doesn't work on larger items. There is a cap on that.
