    Chipping a car under warranty....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Ok,

What does everyone here do for this? I am going to go out on a limb and assume it voids the warranty ;)

I also am going to assume that almost everyone does it anyway and doesn't get caught....so help a brother out

Also, are there specific chips for the tiptronic?

my parents went with the APR chip that allows them to mess with the computer inside the car to turn it off and they also have a for the lack of a better term "blocker" that stops the dealer from pulling up the history of driving habits and modifications. Depending on the dealer, is your answer on the warranty. Technically a car company can only void your warranty if it can prove that your chip caused a problem. But most dealers WILL be a dick over the issue... In my opinion you might want to spend more to get an APR chip (306hp/366 with 91octane... 318hp/382 with 93octane) with the option to turn off the chip inside the car.

I run APR 93 octane on my Tip S4. I also have the GIAC tip chip, there is no mod like chipping an S4. If you are not in the know, you wouldn't even believe those gains are posible with just a chip. It will really wake it up, I have 3 programs on mine, Stock, 93 and 100 octane. I also had my turbos replaced under waranty at 3500 miles or so,, I had chipped it at 1600 or so. The dealer never knew I had it chipped, I switched it to stock mode before the flat bed got there.

It has nothing to do with the chip. The reason it happened, the car was not properly broken in. It had 314 miles on it when it was delivered from a dealer in TX. You cannot tell me that any of those 314 were proper, not to meantion they probably never cooled the car after beating it either. I can also tell by how my brakes broke in,, they were never right,, once again because of the first 314 miles. I hate dealers in every aspect anymore. And I would rather be able to buy a new car and decide if I want the waranty or not,, and pay 5k or so less with no waranty above blatent defects and recalls. I do all of my own service, and I have fixed numourous things that would have been covered,, but I would rather not have them touch my car.

ok, so I shouldn't be too worried about chipping it? I think the car REALLY needs it, especially with the auto

Go for it, you will love it. For sure! Just make sure your tranny fluids are all warmed up before you hammer it. I have had no tranny issues in the 16k or so I have been chipped. And I think alot of it is because I warm my tranny up real good before getting on it. When it is cold it hints at slipping if I give it too much.

I believe I'm correct in saying that if you chip it, get the tip chip too. Gear hunting, I hear, can get quite annoying and stressful on your tranny

Gear hunting mostly happens between 4th and 5th in Auto mode. The tip chip fixes is slightly. For the most part when I drive it in Auto mode I just run it in "4" unless I am on the highway. I also have my tranny vagged to "sport shifting" which also gets rid of alot of gear hunting.
