ATP manifold rant

Did my first high speed run after running in my new GTRS. After about 30mins heard a pop, then my turbo sounded rough, then a fluttering exhuast leak sound.
Stopped the car popped the hood, discovered the mani bolts were loose . tightened them up, but, the flutter was still there.

Brought it to the shop for further inspection, realised the turbo gasket between the Mani and the gtrs was torn in 2. What the mech did was loosen the bolts to lift the mani to check whether the gasket had blown. He was right. Some force was needed to pry the gasket out. Problem is, I cant find the other half. Have this bad feeling it was sucked in.

The mani and turbo will come out tomorrow for a thourough check to make sure nothing fell in during the broken gasket removal.

When I was driving to the shop, there was only a fluttering exhuast sound, no dreaded metal on metal sound, hope the turbines are ok. Anyone ever suck a foreign object into your turbo?If so what was the sound like? This sucks.

I did hear a rough non high pitch turbo whine briefly after I lost boost. But after that, no "dentist drill" on idle, boost, etc. Wonder how the turbines hold up to metal gaskets? Not very good I would assume.

I think the gasket was blown out of the joint, and was not "sucked" into the turbine. The exhaust gas pressure in the manifold is a lot higher than the outside air pressure.

You should not have an issue, i had that similar thing happen when i was trying the EBAY manifold, what happens is the Turbo is not torqued evenly and then caused a pressure leak. once you place that kind load on the gasket it will blow out.

kinda like a bullet small hole first then big gush wound the other side.

gasket will not get sucked in...it will get blown out. If it did enter the turbine it would get grinded to smithereens and blow out the exhaust.

Ok,Update. Mani is fine and not cracked. Turbo is alright Thank God! Just need a good bolt solution short of tac welding.

SS studs with SS prevailing torque lock nuts.
