they wouldnt make my cuts needed for my box. stupid =(

actually the first home depot i went to wouldnt cut for me AT ALL. they said they just dont. i was confused so i left.

visited another home depot and they would cut but not to my specs because they were too small. they said they couldnt make a cut that left something under 12" because of safety precautions. so i asked them to cut the board into 3 big pieces so i could transport it. so now the question is...how do i get these suckers cut? if anybody has the expertise to give me nice straight even accurate cuts i would really appreciate it.

in other news....forget MDF!!! i bought BIRCH! lighter and better resonating qualities but more expensive....but its okay. MDF was 20 bucks and birch was 40 =)

Table saw, circular saw, jigsaw. They will all work.

I cut MDF board pretty easily with a jigsaw when creating my box. I wouldn't use it for long straight lines, its hard to keep straight. It worked well for me for cutting a circular shape.

You can try scissors. Also is Birch really that much better? If that's the case why don't stereo people use that instead of MDF?

My guess would be price. At twice the price it can add up.

The best tool for making precise cuts is a mieter saw. With those saws you can cut things at perfect angles.

    yeah birch is more expensive.

DEFINATE advantages are that its lighter

some of MY theory of why its better is it has better resonant quality. at least in production of drums, birch and maple are the staples because they have much better resonant qualities than any other wood. drums that are made of MDF or cheap composite woods dont sound as good. how much of a difference will this make? probably not much in this environment.

    definate DISADVANTAGES

price. the birch was about 2.5 times more expensive than the MDF of same size and thickness.

    possible other unforseen disadvantages

work. they said its more difficult to work with a birch wood because it is even denser than MDF.
