    Custom Turbo question

A friend of mines dad has a machine shop and he does custom turbos and superchargers. He said that he could do a custom turbo job on my car, but I was wondering what would have to be done to the computer to make everyting work with my car. It's not just as easy as hooking up the turbo and there you go is it?? What all would need to be done to my car to make everyting work and be safe for both me and the car?? And what would be a good turbo to use? Rember that my car is a 96 2.8l 12v. It would not be in the near future that I got this custom job done, but I'm considering saving up for it. Thanks you guys!!

tuning is everything.... if you dont have something that you can tune with lined up its not even worth the time or money cause the car will run like shit.... you might look on www.splitsec.com at the FTM on there that would be something you could use to tune with.. i know it works on 97's, dont know what the difference is between your car and a 97. you would also need someone who knows what they are doing to tune it...

Are you sure those engines can handle a fair amount of boost?

doesn't matter either way they're all out to hurt me.

like i said proper tuning is everything... i am not saying that he will be able to hold 18 psi cause he wont.... but if he could tune the set up and money was no object he could make some decent power from say 11 psi with very good tuning... ie no ping no detonation, a/f in the 12.6 range. though i would say the amount of money it would take to do it wouldnt necessarily be worth it...

Check out superchargedaudi.com , you will find alot of helpful information there. A supercharger would be infinitely simpler and thus cheaper to do custom. No dealing with exhaust manifolds, and oil and coolant lines to the turbo with a supercharger. Search for info on the PES G1. A setup similar to that would probably be the way to go as far as packaging and ease of design on your car. Boost wise, I wouldn't expect to run more than 8 psi without lowering the compression ratio. Thats about what the PES kit runs on the 30 valve. As it is, they apparently make the car run really rich in order to use the excess fuel to keep temperatures down and prevent detonation levels at that amount of boost. Like i said, if you check out superchargedaudi.com you will be able to find alot of helpful information by just reading old threads.
