how to clean DV?

me and moxy took out my forge DV today cuz my car was suffering from some boost issues. we took it apart and it was SOOO DIRTY inside. you guys have any ideas how to clean this thing?

we noticed that when we tried to compress the diaphragm it would not return to close the air path...

i was losing a lot of boost because the air was constantly being recirculated into the intake tract. anyways my question is how do i go about cleaning the DV and do i need some special kind of grease when i put it back together?

Is this the "take apartable" forge bpv? I'd just take it all apart and clean it up really well with some engine degreaser, followed by some good oil (not alot of it)

I had over 50K miles on my TurboXS RBV-25 on my VW, before cleaning it. I started noticing some boost/throttle hesitation. My tech just removed/dismantled it, cleaned with degreaser (or whatever is used to clean engine parts. I think he may have used WD40 and a rag). Then he lubed the piston ONLY (since this is a piston type). That's it.
My Forge DVR hasn't been in long enough to warrant cleaning it, but I would clean it the same way. Not sure about the need for any lube though. I don't recall any in mine when I opened it up to examine. It's also a good idea to just replace the spring and diaphragm at this time.

what exactly is "GOOD" oil?

i have some WD 40 and ill try to get rid of all the GUNK that has built up in there but what before putting it back together what should i lube it up with?

Just an engine lube/grease, or motor oil I assume. Like something from Motul, Mobil, Castrol,..etc. Contact Forge first thing Monday if you can wait, and ask them, or ask the dealer you got it from.

BTW; where are you thinking of lubing it at?

Use simplegreen found at WalMart, I used that on my engine bay when I powerwashed it, best degreaser I've used ever...

im about to clean my DV with some dishwashing detergent...

i heard that those cut grease pretty good...
any thoughts? dish washing detergent cant harm the DV can it?

naw, it should be ok..

But like Darryl said, use some motor oil to lightly lube the piston etc. you dont need to go overboard on the grease..

i think i fixed it...

i just wiped off a lot of the excess gunk that was on there. i didnt use the detergent because that would strip like all the oil. instead i just wiped off most of it and used the remaining and coated all the parts with the remaining grease. works a lot better now. but id still like to test it out somehow. anyone know of any ways i can TEST my dv?

i just dont wanna have to go throught the hassle of putting it back in until i know that i put it back together correctly and that its fully functional...
