Ok, so at the suggestion of an AZ member, I decided to just pull straight up on the shifter plate and give it hell...and it came off! OMG, I'm so glad I didn't go through the trouble of taking off the entire center console.
Anyway, I moved away that trim stuff, pulled out the plug, and saw one tiny little silver magnet held into place. There was only one, and it wasn't popped out or anything. Is this the magnet that everyone is talking about fixing? Or do I need to go even further and deeper to get to some other magnets, because the one I saw wasn't attached to any kind of electronics.
My tip mode isn't back =( But I'm hoping I was fiddling with the wrong magnet and that I still have a chance to fix it before dropping 400 to get the malfunction switch replaced.
