i got the rear manual sunshade and the rear manual side too. they have been laying around in my garage for around 10 months now. the instructions doesn't seem to be that hard but takes some time to measure and layout. thats because you have to drill permanent holes in the rear deck and the rear door panels too. just take your time.

Just curious, is 2004 model have power control for the rear sunshade? Cuz if they do, then that's what I'm looking for. Also mines are B6.

they always had the power option for the rear sunshade. but from what i know it was a factory installed option. it can still be done but its very expensive. basically you need a new rear deck along with the power sunshade assembly and then it has to be wired to the center consule. then a new face for the center consule has to be ordered with an open slot for the shade button. all in all it would cost an arm and a leg. but thats only if you want the stock look all around.

Have you considered just getting your windows tinted? Its cheaper, but then again its not as modular as the manual shade.

However, I do have the manual rear shade in the Passat and I never roll it up mainly because I'm just too lazy to put it back down at night.

Its darker than my 43% tint, but not by much. Maybe 35% rear tint or 20%.

You can still clearly through the mesh. Its nice for when those SUVs ride my ass on the freeway. I wish it was electronic, but not a big deal.

It provides the same amount of darkness that autodimming rear view mirrors do. But if you have an '03, you may not know what that is like. :)

wombatt, thx for the info. Well i have heard some story about tinting the rear windsheld and makes the defroger dont work. And i kinda same as lawong, too lazzy for a manual sunshade, so that's why i hope i can put a power one on.

tint is 50% material used, and 50% install. But I have never really use my defogger because I garage my car. And come to think of it.. I don't think tint can get foggy.

If the installer sucks, I guess they can seriously mess up the rear window defogger. Just go to a reputible shop and not one of those $25 tint jobs and you should be fine.

Having experienced both tint and the manual rear sunshade, I'd rather have tint.
