Okay everyone, here is my current ordeal. I just got some 18's (I'll be puttin them on next week!! Can't wait) I have sport suspension and im probably gonna want to lower it after gettin my new wheels on. I want to lower enough so there isnt much of a wheel gap, but i don't want to sacrifice too much ride quality. What should i go with, i was thinkin CO's. What is the ride quality like with CO's ive never ridden in a car that had them?

I suggest you ride in a cars that have both CO's and Shock/spring combos..

    Do that before anything else..

Will a sport not race shock/spring combo lower it enough from sport suspension, to make no wheel gap?

There is a noticeable difference in the front, but not as much in the rear. I know because I have the sport spring/shock combo, while my brother has a sport package. I think if you go 225 in the front and 235 in the back, it'll help it look filled and low. Just a thought

You can get away with different tire sizes on fwd cars, but not quattro..

if you are only concerned about height, then go with coilovers. but there are many other things to consider, including handeling and ride quality. a lowered car is great, but whats the point of spending all that money if you are not happy with the way it handles or rides? it sounds like you want a car that rides and handles well. a sport shock an spring combo may work well for you then. a good coilover option would be a set of konis, then tend to ride better then the others at a very small expense of handeling. it all depends on what you are looking for.

My car is not quick enough yet, plus i drive it every day, so i am the most concerned about ride quality. The looks are the main reason i want to lower it, the handling is an added bonus.

you can put wider tires on the back... just doesn't make sense for quattro

H&R and bilstein is a VERY NICE setup. Can't go wrong with that. Handles 50% better, ride qualilty is close to stock, and lowers nicely.

Yeah this is a nice setup. You can also go back to stock height or slam it till the wheels are tucked. It's a little bit more $ but well worth it.

H&R Sport/Adjustable Bilstein. YOu can go race, but will be alot firmer. With the sport/adjustable Bilstein, u can adjust the grooves on the Bilstein to make it sit very low with 18s. I had race/adj Bistein before and i only set it one grooved below normal and it sat pretty low.

I thought coilovers had more of a stock like ride?? when compared to a shock and spring set-up Yes/no?

It really depends on the brand you get and the CO/shock or S/S combination you get. The brand makes a big difference. I think the majority of the shock and spring combo will give you more of a stock ride feel then a CO combo. There's a few factors involved.... ride height, spring rate etc.

H & R makes a really good CO and has a really nice ride feel especially when used with good shocks and makes the car handle really good. I also have Ground Control on my other car and it doesn't compare to the H & R CO. Ground Control uses Eibach springs for there CO setup but it's a little harsh on the ride in my opinion.

Eibach has lowering springs (not the CO and Sport version) that have a really close to stock ride feel but also doesn't lower the car as much other lowering springs. I "think" this version of the Eibach spring has the closest to stock ride feel then any other lowering springs.

Im gonna get in here and ask some Q's since I am getting new suspension soon. If I go H&R sport and Bilstein adjustables, will I be able to lower below the level of just the H&R's and stock sport shocks? What about if I use the Eibach pro kit's with Bilstein adj.?

With this in mind, will H&R CO's be a noticeable difference when compared to the above as far as handling and stiffness. Lot of issues but you suspension pros should be able to help

I'm guessing the H&R sport and bilstein adjust will be lower then the H&R sport and stock stock sport shocks. I'm sure the Eibach pro kit with Bilsten adj. won't go lower then the H&R Sport and Bilsten adj.

I don't know the answer to the 2nd paragraph.
