    Key Fob Dead

Well I've had my B7 for a year and a half and my fob was dead this morning. I had to grab the spare on the way out. Is it just me or shouldn't the batteries last longer? Anyone else have their fob die early? I've had other cars and not had this problem. I have a 36 mo lease so I'll probably turn it in as is and not replace the battery (when I upgrade to an S5)...

Mine's been acting weird too. Sometimes it wants to work, sometimes it doesn't. I'm not sure what exactly is going on, but I've also had my car a little over a year and a half and it seems odd that the battery would die so fast.

    Re: Key Fob Dead

Mine stopped working and I noticed the led activity light on the fob was very weak. They use a CR2032 battery. I picked one up at Radio Shack. I think Target carries them too. Apparently, they don't last too long.

NOTE: Once I replaced the battery, I had to reassociate the fob with the car by pushing the button, unlocking the door manually, and then starting the car. Since I did that, it works fine.

That sounds like complete BS to me. Maybe if you rub it all over your head, the static electricity from your hair will charge the battery.

    Re: Key Fob Dead

Mine stopped working 3-weeks after I bought the car. I'm just using the other one until I have to take my car in for the 5k service.

    Re: Key Fob Dead

Interesting, I just logged in to see if anyone else had problems, since my SECOND fob went dead this weekend. That's two down and the cars 8 months old. I've only been using the second fob for a month or two.

Maybe Audi needs to partner with Engergizer.

There's a TSB that covers faulty remote transmitter keys. If you're having problems with your key, you may want to visit the dealer to see if you're covered. It's TSB 57-06-11 and covers the following VIN range:

    2005 8E_5A405683 to 8E_5A522888
    2006 8E_6A000252 to 8E_6A002110

The affected Key Fobs have a part number of:

    8E0 837 220A
    or
    8E0 837 220F

Pop off the battery cover and clean out any dust. Part number is under the key blade.

    Re: Key Fob Dead

Thanks everyone for posting (especially the TSB info). I'll have to check with my dealer about the fob. My series remotes end in "L." Hopefully it’s just the battery and is cheap to fix. Got to love German cars. They are certainly fun to drive and own but always fall short on the electrical end of things.

Oh and baaudi you're welcome to try out the trunk charging feature. My lack of free time and IQ above 100 is keeping me from conducting that experiment. By the way, I also hear you can play your ipod by inserting it into the tape deck (just kidding).
