I don't know about a B6, but for a B7 the city lights are different from the DRL which are different from the corner lights.

But you asked for city lights, no ecodes = no city lights. City lights are the small bulbs inside the highbeam reflector. An ecode has city lights and turn signals. A stock US housing will have marker lights (activated by the parking light switch) and turn signals. Daytime running lights are actual lights durring the day (fogs or low beams) not your marker lights.

Re: 5 Minute DIY CityLight w/Fog Mod (Props to "FatAuto" on AW)...

Many thanks to FatAuto and Eddie Man for this thread. Having just done this on my 2007 S4, I have a couple pics and a few notes that might help some folks get this done...

You can get access behind the dash by going thru the fuse panel. Just pry it open gently using a flat blade screw driver in the access slot shown by the red arrow. There are several spring clips around this panel, just work them out carefully and pop the panel off.

If you reach in behind the headlight switch you can release the connector from the DRL controls. This allows the entire harness to come out thru the opening.

Here is what I used to make the connection... Cut the #2 wire, slide the end that is still connected to the switch into one of these and crimp the whole thing down over wire #1... no wire stripping at all! This connector contains a gel that moisture proofs the connection, so it should be a pretty durable setup.

is there a vag-com code to do this to the rs4 (b7)??

Re: 5 Minute DIY CityLight w/Fog Mod (Props to "FatAuto" on AW)...

I believe the RS4 is still just a B7 (like mine) when it comes to the headlight codings and wiring. Thus, a VAG recode will set you up for "rest of the world" headlights... which includes using the front corner lights for signals only (no parking lights), and leaving the foglights on when the highbeams are active. But using the foglights in Parking/Citylights mode is only possible with the wiring mod described in this thread.

    Thanks

    Eddie Man,

I was wondering if you could post a picture of or the part number for those latest city lights I thought i remembered you getting. I remember we had talked bout me not really liking the LED quality of the city lights not dispersing light back on the reflecter and giving that soft glow but then I could have sworn you found some LED city lights that shing some LEDs back on the reflector and create a very nice soft light that is also matching in color to xenon. I could be crazy and have you confused with another forum member. Either way I appreciate you taking the time.

    cheers! Mike

So let me get this straight.

I usually keep mine on "Auto".

So when doing this mod and I keep it on "Auto" all I have to do is pull the knob outward to bring on the fog lights instead of having to turn the knob clockwise and then pull outward?

That is what sucks about this mod for those of us with the auto feature, at least the B6 - no way to put the fogs on in auto mode as as I know, I even tried with the Canadian settings.

Re: 5 Minute DIY CityLight w/Fog Mod (Props to "FatAuto" on AW)...

I think you have your mods confused.

The CityLight w/Fog Mod doesn't involve the bulbs at all. We've just rewired the harness behind the switch. I've been running it for several months... nearly all of the time... with no problems.

Some people have reported melted sockets when they changed from OEM to xenon matching bulbs. Others have reported issues with using LEDs. Whether you attempt either of these is completely separate from this mod.

Re: 5 Minute DIY CityLight w/Fog Mod (Props to "FatAuto" on AW)...

    va-terps4,

Thanks, I have switched my city lights from OEM to Xenon match but they are the supposed to be the same wattage. I inquired here to see if there may be some way that this mod could have increased the power output to the city light. I know it is a long shot but worth a try.

I do have some socket melting and I am not quite sure what to do. The bulbs are stuck in the lamp housing.

I tried searching for this but had little luck. Does anyone know how to find any threads on this subject or any other resolution to this problem.

Sounds like I will be getting the clear corner mod out of this mess.

I couldn't see it being too expensive or difficult...

you would just need the actual connector from the dealer and some kind of pin extractor (i believe ECS has them but, they are on backorder right now)...

Re: 5 Minute DIY CityLight w/Fog Mod (Props to "FatAuto" on AW)...

I think I'll do this mod to my car when I get my e-codes in... waiting on the seller to clear up the issues with the morons at UPS...

One quick question... I don't remember what thread (or forum) I read on how to actually remove the switch but... I think it was something like:

Turn the Headlight switch to just CCW from "Auto"
Push the moveable part of the switch in and turn CCW again
Then the whole thing should just lift out...

    Is this correct?

i just tried it now and it worked... i have the little wire taps already (not like the ones the OP has, where'd you get them?)... I'd rather just wait to get the e-codes in and do everything lighting related at once...

anyone know where to get the LED regulators that were used in this DIY?

    thanks again
