Yeah you can make the carbonio work somehow(someone on AW) did it, so I'd search there. The main problem I see though is that the airflow is limited to coming in through the one intake spot on the core support. The way the intake is setup in the X1 case is the snorkel, the radiator bypass hole just under it, around the light (top and bottom by removing the weatherstripping above the headlight on the core support) and from the lower fenderwell area.
Still if you want to borrow a dwyer gage for some pressure drop tests on it that would be kickass! Throw a thermocouple in there too. Those really are very pretty and well made for sure.
