    Problem with my Porter Cable

I had a backing pad come lose while I was working and it seemed to have just messed up the threads on the backing pad , not the PC itself. I ordered a new spot backing pad as well as a 6" backing pad. I used both and left the spot pad on. Well when I came back to it a week later I am having a hard time.

The screw (bolt) that attaches the backing pad to the PC came out of the backing pad and is now stuck in the PC. I have no clue on how to get it out.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Pete

Was the screw that came loose part of the backing plate that came with the PC (hook & loop)?

Argh. I hate it when stuff like this happens. Two ideas come to mind. First, is there enough of the screw sticking up that you could grab it with some small vice grips or similar tool to back it out? The other thought - and I know it's not a big screw - would be to drill into the center of it and use a larger bit as a post for the vice grips.

Might be worth contacting Porter Cable too - I can't imagine this is the first time this has happened and they might have some good ideas.

Re: Problem with my Porter Cable

Dark - no it was a sonus 3" spot pad with its own screw. The screw that is stuck in the PC is part of that backing pad.

Vroom - Those were my ideas I have just not tried yet. I am in the middle of redoing my garage and I can't find a couple things. Vice grips being one of them. If that doesn't work then I will try to drill out the screw.

Any other ideas would be appreciated as well. Will try the above when I get home from work.

    Thanks All

Vice grips worked ... backing pads go on and off with ease now. Don't know why it gor stuck. Thanks for the ideas.
