Re: B5 A4 Easter Eggs! Features not found in the owner's manual.

How can I tell whether or not my car is equipped with remote keyless entry? (remote control windows, alarm, etc???)

I bought my Audi about 2 years ago, and I only received one key... The seller promised he'd send a "keyfob" and extra keys, but never came through on that, so what I am hoping to learn is FIRST whether or not my car is even equipped with remote control locks, factory alarm remote control windows trunk release...
and SECONDLY, how do I go about ordering a replacement key-fob transmitter, and how do I program it to work with my car?

I have contacted a couple of the ebay stores that claim to specialize in OEM remote transmitter replacements, but none have been helpful.
Anyone have any recommendations aside from going to a Stealership and grabbing my ankles

I believe that all later model B5's came with keyless entry, but you can take the data tag in the spare tire well to the dealer and lookup the individual PR codes, which will tell you every option that car came with. Or find the lock module and search the part number, that should tell you for sure. You can also look by the front door locks and factory alarm systems have the red led that blinks when you lock the car.

The fobs are all the same so just buy one from a dealer and then program it, however I think you need 2 keys. Keys can be ordered from the dealer with proof of ownership and about 100 bucks. The fobs are about the same price too.

When I unlock my car (1999 German spec) S4, open one of the doors and close it again without putting the key in the ignition.. It automatically locks the car after about 30 seconds..

To switch on radio with engine off I turn the key 1 click and turn it back. All lights are off but radio is on. When I pull the key from the ignition radio goes off.

If I need to rush out of the car (happened a couple of times) as in slam the brakes, rip out the key and exit the car before the engine settle down.. I've noticed the car is locked when I return.

My locks are coded to lock/unlock all doors on 1 klick and no automatic locking above 40 km/h

Yeah, you just flip the ignition to "AUX", get out, then lock the door with the blade of the key, hold down the "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" buttons on the fob simultaneously - the lights will flash/horn will honk. Sometimes they don't do that, but just try out the lock/unlock buttons and everything should work. The dealership where I'm from wanted $70 to program the key - which I find ridiculous, as it took about 45 seconds including the google search on how to do it.

sounds like some coding issues to me. Unless you want it that way.

if i unlock my car and dont open the doors it locks itself after 30 seconds or a minute or something.

without the key in i can turn the radio on...sounds like similar things.

Not sure if this posted already but... I found this cool today!

Hold the recirc. button and + temp button and you can change the readings between Celsius and Fareneheit. This is for the climate control and for the outside temp. reading on the cluster.

Re: B5 A4 Easter Eggs! Features not found in the owner's manual.

    Figured I would add this.

    (Noticed more at night)
When you turn the car off the interior lights remain off until the key is removed from the ignition. Once removed the lights illuminate.

Also, in my TIP when pressing the gas & brake simultaneously the throttle is closed off, and the car will decelerate. (I.E. = Coming up to a stop sign still on throttle roll on the brake at the same time), it will loose rpm but still have more then idle RPM, sounds and looks cool lol. Release the brake and while still on the gas pedal and you can resume speed

I think you've got a speed warning set in your trip computer. It's called Speed Warning 2 (there are two kinds you can set) in my 99.5 manual. To cancel it, with the ignition off press the test button (down between the clock and the LDC panel thing) briefly, then hold it down again for about 2 seconds. It should show the 65 mph. Now just hold down the reset button (the other one to the right of the LCD panel) till it disappears. It's in the manual under Speed Warning.

So just to verify for the 100th time....I have a BOSE. Whats the diff. between concert and symphony?
I CANNOT get that to work. Only thing that works is holding down the 1 and turning on, but it just shows the station and other numbers shooting back and forth...and letters at the end.
I can't get them to change.

Pull up the rear seat base. If there's a small black or white box under there plugged into the loom with an aerial wire coming out of it that's probably coiled up, you've got keyless entry. You can probably only get remotes through a stealership though...

    Power window safety switch

I don't know if this has been posted, but here goes. If you hit the power window safety switch to lock out the windows, and the lights are on, it will not illuminate the rear switches.

I just read through this whole thread and didn't see anything about this.

If you put you key in the lock cylinder on the trunk and turn it 90 degrees to the right (from the 12 o clock position to the 3 o clock position) it will block access to the trunk. No matter if the vehicle is locked or unlocked you will be able to push the cylinder inward (as to open it) but nothing will happen.

I thought that was pretty cool.

Best easter egg ever! I just tried this on my 2001 C5 A6 and it worked! My car was imported from the US, everything is in miles, gallons, etc. and I'm just not really good with the Imperial system! If I could only change everything else over as easily!

I dont have a light there. In my 01 its a airbag. The antenna is not under the seat either. There is a black box but the part number on the box on the inside says its something to do with the headlight range? So where else could this little bugger be?
