-If you roll up any passenger's window from the drivers door, while you are holding the button the light for that doors window switch will turn off.

If you push the button to lock the passenger windows their swithes turn off as well. Same goes for when you turn the car off and remove the key. The switches stay illuminated (and work) until a door is opened.

one thing i just noticed when looking at some photos from last winter.
at 41*F the Winter snowflake symbol turns on. However, at a certain low temperature which i am unsure of, the symbol turns off.

I had some photos of my instrument cluster with temps like -3*F and 0*F, and the snowflake symbol was off, and thats how i noticed.

When you flick the wiper blade stalk down, the blades swipe once. When you flick it towards you, the blades swipe twice.

when the doors are locked and you are trying to get out, pull the handle once to unlock the door and pull again to get out. This works for all doors so alert your friends since only the driver has the unlock button.

I saw someone mention recirculation feature could only be used with the a/c compressor running (econ light off). Well if you select recirc then econ, the compressor will stay off even in auto.

btw is there a instrument light cluster dim switch?

there are 2 sticks coming out of the gauges, im pretty sure if you turn the left one it will dim, if you pull it out and turn it changes the clock. it may be the right one though.

The stereo remembers the volume for when you have it on while the car is running (both CD and radio) and when you have the car turned off and you press the power button.

Basically:

With the car on and on a CD it will remember that volume, and when you go to radio it will remember that volume. The car off and hit the button will be remembering the volume for the last time you used the radio that way.

This scared the shit out of me last night cause I turned on the radio without the key and apparently I was blasting that ish the last time, cause it turned on and was damn loud. LOL. good times.

another thing i think is cool is that if you turn the heater on in the morning when the engine is cold, and put the heater on auto to say 73 degrees, the fan will blow harder as the engine warms up and the car has more heat to put out, avoiding cold air blowing at you from the start....

This is only for cars with Tiptronic and I'm pretty sure this is not posted yet. If your in Tip mode and in a higher gear than 2nd, you can push the pedal all the way down and push harder till pedal clicks, it will automatically down shift you 2 gears. If your in 2nd gear it will down shift you into 1st. Found this out when I need to get through a yellow light in 5th. Pushed the pedal to the floor and then it popped me into 3rd, got me through the light just in time...

It's been a while since i have been on any audi discussion site. and i don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but in tiptronic mode for the cars that have it the redline is increased by about 250rpm if i remember correctly. it might be more, but i remember reading that somewhere. it will hold the gear longer than in regular D mode. the gears will also automatically change when a redline is reached.

the passenger side view mirror is smaller on the earlier B5 models as a design insight to a vantage point when viewing traffic from the drivers position. you are at a greater angle and therefore have no need for a larger mirror on that side. it saves a bit on aerodynamics also.

the moon roof is adjustable to any position in between open and closed. just leave the dial in a desired position. you can also adjust the vertical opening amount.

i'm sure there are a few others i am forgetting that have yet to be mentioned.

oh, the cars that were optioned with the "sport package" (3 spoke steering wheel, along with other things) also have a set of different suspension (red shocks) that was a bit lower than stock. maybe by about .5 inches.

1) Heated Side view mirrors. It's in the owners manual...so what?
Well, unlike on the VW Passat of the same era, the Audi heating element is controlled by a bi-metallic strip switch on the back of the mirror glass. Thus no switch on the side mirror control, and (more importantly) no failure of the heating element when you leave the heaters on all summer long.

2) Throttle Body adaptation
Turn ignition on, but don't start car. Wait approximately 3 minutes. ECU will perform throttle body adaptation. Sorry, I don't have exact wait time, but if you have the hood open, you will hear the stepper motor faintly squeal/whine while it does it...noises last about 3 seconds...Useful if you don't own a VAG-COM and you've disconnected the battery or cleaned/replaced the TB.
note: there is some debate if this performs a full/correct TBA. I have not personally verified that this works.

3) Symphony Radio - Easter Eggs (Some of these have been posted here, others not)
a) Real Time frequency tuning
Turn on while holding Preset 1 button.
AM1 and AM2 buttons toggle between two modes (no further info)

b) Real Time SVC (speed volume control) adjustment
Turn on while holding Preset 2 button.
Number of dB increase in volume is shown.

c) Changer Presence Detection
Turn on while holding Preset 4.
CONNECT = changer present
NO CDC = no changer

d) The famous Frequency Magnitude Equalization - done right
Turn on while holding Preset 5 button
First four digits are frequency equalization for FRONT SPEAKERS:
low | low-mid | mid | high
Last four digits are eq for REAR SPEAKERS:
low | low-mid | mid | high
Use P.Scan to select digit, Volume control knob to adjust
Turn off radio to save changes.
NOTE: Folks often neglect to mention: to have the new settings go in to effect, the radio must be turned off while the ignition is off. If you fool with this while the ignition is on, then even though you turn the radio off and on, you won't hear changes until you shut the ignition off too. This means you can't easily fool with this and hear the changes while you're driving.
Default (non-Bose): 5555 5555
I use: 1454 6468 in my wagen/Avant. I do this because my front woofers are not in great shape, and rattle/buzz/distort with too much bass. Also, I've found the front speakers to be a bit 'bright' and harsh. 1454 Fixed both of these issues.
To compensate, I've slightly boosted the bass in the rear. Also, I've found that the rear speakers lack treble response. 6468 is about right. Not too boomy, but slightly more punchy than stock.

4) Stop alarm going off when you park with Sunroof open
As mentioned here before, you can change the sensitivity of the Alarm System/Anti-Theft active ultrasonic motion detectors, with a VAG_COM. Controller [45 - Interior Monitor], [10 - Adaptation], Channel 1 = Sensitivity: 100% is default. I have found that by setting mine to 75% ("00075"), it fixes the false alarms.

Other interesting tidbits which are in the manual, but may have been missed:

1) Reset the Service Reminder Interval (SRI) for instrument cluster to remind you SERVICE DUE!
On instrument cluster, hold right button, and turn ignition on (don't start car). Release button. Display should say SERVICE or SERVICE OIL.
Either push-in, or pull-out left button, and hold until display clears. Display should then read SERVICE 8000, or SERVICE ----.
Note: That 8000 is in miles, and it's a pretty damn long interval for the 1.8T. I use VAG_COM to reset the SRI, and set it to 5000miles.

2) Symphony Radio
Turn on while holding P.Scan
SVC: Speed Volume Correction: 1-5
VOL: Max Turn-on volume: 1-5
SENS: FM Autotune sensitivity: DX/Local
REM: Radio Monitoring: Radio whie tape FF/REW: On/Off
NAV: Telephone uses speaker: Left/Right
TA: Traffic Announce Volume: (I have no info on this)

well, when ever i want to listen to my raido when the car is on i cant (apline deck) so i need to trun the key right before you crank it, all the lights turn on (cluster, fogs, break) and its a little annouying, any way of fixing this so i can listen to it like the stock radio

^^^ Have sparky wire the radio standby and main together to the car side always on 12V.
Battery Drain Alert ... _ _ _ ... AFAIK, only the original deck has the 1 hour timeout if you leave it on.


This made me smile today......

I did the door lock recode (15mph autolock/key out unlock) and discovered that my A4 unlocks only as much as when I got in. So if I only unlocked my door with one remote click when I got in, on key out, only the drivers and fuel door unlock. If I clicky'd twice on entry, on key out the whole car comes undone.

There is a little button on the drivers side between the front and rear doors..what does it do?

That button is the interior sensor. The sensor is always on when you get out and lock your car. This button turns it off if pressed once and back on if pressed again. Quite a nice feature if you have a dog in the car so the alarm will not go off.

Anyone know how to change the default "defrost" setting in a 98.5?

For example, when I hit the defrost button on my climate control unit, it automatically turns on the A/C and cranks the fan up to level 12 or so.

All I really want it to do is switch to the A/C vents and let me set the fan level manually.

The UK models (Canada models as well) have DRL's and the US models do not. If you want to turn your fogs on w/o the low beam headlights, you need to mod it.
