EVERY B58 with VANOS? But then you say NOT every engine with VANOS had issues. What is it?? Bro all you needed to do is a good ol' Google search to find that out.

Google shows there's been VANOS problems with every engine that ran it.

Google also shows that BMW forums eat their own when BMW owners post about these problems.

Here's a hilarious one, where they try ta run off their own member for pointin it out:

This thread made me appreciate the automobile we share, and its value.

Look at the threads in the RS3 Specific forum, and it's 95% positive vibes.

Posters wanting to improve or modify their ride, insteada complaining about error codes or oil consumption.

Quite different from other makes' forums, and the concerns expressed therein.

Even in the Audi family, I believe this model, which has been around since MY2017, has fewer documented problems reported than any other model.

Posters can go on about some time posted in a track in Germany, but the online forum for that model is a laundry list of reliability issues requesting acknowledgment of other posters that their model suffers the same fate, and that it's acceptable.

Feeling blessed that this model is as reliable as it is.

well now this got out of control... luckily for me I probably won't ever keep any of these out of warranty so for the purpose of this thread, it's completely irrelevant... yet still I don't believe it to be true.

my 22 b58 got sold at 48k and it never need a drop of oil nor did it have any issue... my x3m40i had the same b58 and was a gem of a motor.

to the contrary, it's been called one of the most reliable new/performance motors out there. it happens to be very impressive and a marvel of engineering in my opinion.

that being said, I still love my rs3 and maybe when the time comes I'll just get a new 8.5Y and call it a day LOL... as I search and look for my next replacement, they all seem to keep falling short of the RS3, or are way more expensive i.e. M3. If I had to buy something right now today, in this price range, there is a good possibility it would be an M340i with MPE ... but that's today : ) I got a good 4-6 months (mileage wise) until I really have to make a move.. maybe by then there will be some selection of 8.5Y's sitting in dealerships, like when I got my 8Y... that green one, whatever it's called, keeps calling my name and would be sweet with the darker wheels on the 8.5Y

the new S5 kind of caught my eye. I would love an RS5 but that's getting away from what I would spend so I was just wondering if any of you would give up the rs3 for an s5 or if any of you happen to have one by chance? would love some real world feedback. I like the new interior and overall style, I like the extra room and maybe smoother ride (yes the rs3 is a little rough at times lol) and I understand it's not as fast but I was just thinking if it's worth investigating...

I would love an m3 but the ones around here are 80k used LOL... out of control and I have an M2 that my son drives that I love but it's really tight and low and I really don't want an m340 either lol... and to be honest there is not much that I would really consider over the rs3 especially at that price point...

watching some reviews on the S5, it's not slow and even seems to sound pretty good.... yes I know I will miss the beloved 5 cylinder sound and performance but it just seems like a good time to sell the rs3 and start the mileage back to 0 lol... i daily and use for work so I don't/can't keep anything too long as mileage piles up and value plummets on just about everything which is what started these thoughts. I'm at 26k on my 24 so to unload it now at a high price seems like possibly a good idea LOL.
    I have had 2 8V RS3's, 2 B9 RS5's, 1 B9.5 S4

I thought the S4 was extremely capable and a very well rounded car that performed good in every category. The RS amplifies that. Going from an RS3 to an S5 you will miss the power. I eventually traded my S4 in for an RS5 sportback again as I missed the practicality. (and HP)

I gave up my RS3 and moved on and am coming back around after having many other vehicles. (M5, RS5, S4, M850i) The RS3 was awesome and the worst decision I ever made in my life was getting rid of my 2019 RS3 for a 2020 X3M comp. (I got rid of the X3M after 4 months of owning it) I now haven't paid for a 2nd set of tabs on any car for the last 5 years.

HP isn't everything. You have to drive something that makes you happy. Finding that for myself has been quite the journey. I am looking at 8Y RS3's in the meantime and may be joining you guys again soon over here.

Wow... I'm a little surprised you ditched the x3m after 4 months. I test drove a few of them and they seemed incredible.. but I hear you everyone is different. I am coming to learn in my mind that I can't seem find anything better (at this price) than the RS3 so I feel you. I might just stretch out ownership as long as I can then get another one LOL... again, I don't sell my cars because I don't like them anymore, it's more of trying to keep in warranty and not going too high mileage to where it loses so much value. I have found that the loss of selling a car like this with 80k miles is way worse than just swapping it out and getting a new one sooner... I could be wrong but it seems like no one wants to buy a car like this at say 70 or 80k miles, at least for a good price. I do between 25-30k/year so it makes it hard as that's almost 3 times the average lol... me in one year is equal to the average person about 2.5 years lol.... kind of sucks because if I didn't have to drive so much I would definitely keep them a lot longer. me in 3 years of a new RS3 would be at about 80-90k miles lol.... maybe I'll just grab a new 8.5Y if they ever actually show up locally lol... give me a reason to get that green that is so cool looking lol...

what didn't you like about the m5 and rs5 though? those are 2 very capable performers, more so than the rs3 and they are much bigger and more refined... so it seems...

If I can find any complaint(s) about the RS3, as mentioned already... it's comfy but still very small although that isn't a big deal... but the DSG is sometimes really annoying when not going crazy/WOT, clunkly and loud.. my m2 or any other car i've had never had that issue... also, although it's "AWD", it's really FWD that sometimes in extreme conditions will send some power to the rear.. it's just something that I always "feel" and notice compared to a true RWD or true AWD system like Xdrive.

The only thing I'd like more than my rs3 is an emira, but that's not very practical, I couldn't afford it unless my rs3 was paid off, and maintenance and issues would probably stress me out too much.

I've only been driving VWs for so long that I still feel like a VW guy, even though I hate the new mk8s. I like the supra, but I already bought the rs3 over one of those and that's the only toyota I like. There's really nothing else I'm into. I don't really like BMWs and mercedes do absolutely nothing for me. Nissan only has the Z. Camaros/corvettes/chargers/mustangs/etc are not my bag either and that's definitely not my scene. I'm not interested in the new hyundais or kias. If I was being forced to downgrade and needed the money, maybe I'd get something like a honda civic, but I think I'd rather just go back to a 7.5 golf r.

My last 3 cars were love at first sight. I'm pretty simple like that. I don't look at things near as analytical as much as some of you do. The numbers matter to a degree, but I'm not using the car competitively so I'm not looking for every single advantage possible.

I'm kinda at my limit as to what I can afford with the rs3 anyway, plus I'm getting tired of spending money on cars all the time. I'd like to pay off the rs3 within the next year and then keep it another 7 years or so.

I like the community and I like the shops I go to. I don't really want to start over by swapping to another brand. I'm comfortable with these cars since I've owned something similar for so long. I don't really want to leave VW/audi and I've got my favorite car they make, so there's really no where else for me to go anymore. Maybe I won't feel the same in the future, but that's where I'm at right now.

nicely stated and I can't argue with that... maybe I'm answering my own questions here too lol... I WISH I could keep the same car for 7 years LOL... I would be at 210,000 miles though and I'm not sure anyone wants to own any European car at 200k, let alone a complex RS3 ...

The M5 I got rid of due to electrical issues, the RS5 I have nothing bad to say about. I would do a B9.5 RS5 in Turbo Blue it's just they don't exist for sale right now. I haven't had an RS3 for sometime now. I recently had an RS5 so I feel like that would be the reasoning for it.

I have noticed that too in the RS3 you never seem to be in the right gear due to the 7 Speed DCT. I always had to manually shift in Sport mode whereas the RS5 was always smooth no matter which mode I was in. (ZF 8 vs. DCT 7 though)

for me, I don't think it's that the DSG isn't in the right gear as much as it's just clunky and loud and not smooth when driving slow... that being said, at wot or higher rpms, or in RS modes it does shift fast, up and down and it sure does sound good while doing it... guess it's just life with the dual boxes... getting used to though and I find myself driving more in dynamic or rs mode which seems to help as then the tranny hangs on the lower gears for dear life, minimizing the shifts lol... but this is a small complaint on an otherwise amazing little beast of a car.

in the real world, it's probably the quickest car I've ever owned. granted my cat would destroy this car at the higher end but from a stop or slow roll, this thing is an animal. standing 1/4 mile sub 12 and 0-60 in the mid 3's lol... my cat could only dream of that because of the loss of traction.... even my m2 has trouble from a standstill and even a slow roll sometimes... hard to put the power down which the RS3 has no trouble doing. it handles great, has 4 doors, can cruise quietly on the highway with actual humans in the back getting 30 mpgs, then it can go directly to the drag strip and rip your head off lol.... then it can go on a road coarse and outhandle many more expensive 'sports cars' lol.. it does a lot of things very well.

Another thing I've noticed since owning this is how rare they seem to be. I live and work in and around Miami, a major city and to date I think I've only ever seen 1 or 2 on the road which is shocking to me. maybe they're not popular here or they just don't make very many but either way it's kind of cool having something that not everyone has. m3's and mustangs and the likes are a dime a dozen here.

I think I have only seen 3 8Y's since they came out. Python Yellow, Kylami Green and the same Python yellow one again. I am in that boat with my M850i. Very rare car. So rare that when you see a Purple one you know it is me, lol.

nice...love the purple! I now kind of wish I got the yellow or green just for some more spice LOL... maybe that's a reason to get a new one hahah...when I bought this one, they had 2 black, 1 white, and 1 yellow on the lot sitting there. I will not ever get black if I can help it and at the time I got scared of the yellow... but now I kind of wonder.. the white (on this car) is just not very exciting maybe because this car is already low key looking... I see the website of the local dealer now shows some coming in transit...It may be worth a trip over to secure a green

By the way, there is a guy in this thread that will try to convince you on an M240i and show you all the proof as to why it’s better than the RS3… just warning you before he starts sharing all the stats and awards…….

I mean, isn't any RWD based sports sedan better than FWD? I never said better, I said equivalent, but I wouldn't expect the Audi fanboystrue Audi fans to get that the RS3 is on par with an M-lite.

This thread is about other cars than the RS3, so fair play. Enjoy your fast definitely-not-Jetta. :D

I would never, repeat this again NEVER ever ever buy a 2 series. I think they super fugly. Are they capable cars, yes. Is the M2 even more capable, yes. Would it ever end up in my garage, no. I have gone through the BMW lineup just as I have with Audi and really the only thing left for me on the BMW side is the M3. Audi side would be RS7 but then we are in the same boat as the 2 series. Not a fan at all of the new body style or the pricetag. I would do an RS6 Avant, but same deal with the price tag.

If they made an RS4 variant that was not an avant for the states I would truly be interested but I doubt that ever happens.

RWD has its benefits, but for me living in Minnesota. I have a very hard time justifying buying one due to the fact that I also then have to buy a shitbox for driving 5 months out of the year due to snow and terrible roads. I tried driving in 10" of snow in RWD mode in my M5 with snow tires on and it scared me. Put it back in AWD and made the snow my bitch.

Have the M-light cars come a far ways? Absolutely. Hell I own one now and think it is incredible. The M240i of today could probably easily smoke 90% of things on the road currently. M240i, RS3, I heard a Mustang in there, It is all personal taste. People want what people want. You can try and reason with people all you want but likely you will never change someone's mind on anything.

Currently owning an RS3 for the OP and replacing it with something else. I would seriously look at a used 23 RS5 Sportback with the Comp package. They have dropped into the $60k range and are a great value for the money. Plus a decent hit of the depreciation is gone if you buy one at $67k with a starting price in the $90k range.

That is my thoughts. I thought about getting an RS5 Comp as I have never had the comp version. If I went that route though I would go all out and get the AWE track exhaust it deserves. :)

Nice.. and thank you for your opinion... the rs5 is definitely on the short list. As for the 2 series, I happen to have a 24 M2 that is my son's car and while it's too tight for me, I do think it's a good looking car just my opinion and it is a beast. it's perfect for him and the s58 in any flavor is impressive. If I was going to squeeze into a 2 door I would just get a dark horse and have a v8 back in my life but it's not my first choice. as much as I want a v8 again, I prefer sedan... in a perfect world I'd just get a ct5vbw but not at 100k lol... that's crazy. The most fun/amazing car I've ever owned (by a mile) was my 22 hellcat. Having so much power in a big comfy sedan that sounded amazing was just a great experience.. unfortunately the market destroyed those cars between theft and insurance it just stopped making any sense lol... I'm not as lucky or smart as you when it comes to value and selling cars for good prices however I did own that car for a year and sold it for what i paid for it so I got lucky on that one... my next best purchase might be this rs3 as values seems to remain strong, which is why I thought it might be a good time to get out and move on lol....

There are a couple 2024 RS5 comps I have my eye on right now. But one of them is about 50 miles from the outrageous flooding in TX. Unsure if that area was hit at all and it seems I would have to drive that way should I want to get it. One White and the other Ascari Blue.

Living in MN I have only ever experienced 1 flood and it was scary as hell. That compared to any other flooding was so minor that people would laugh at me being scared about it. The unimaginable thought of 26 ft of water coming towards you during the night.... Damn.

    Stay safe out there folks!

yea we have that problem here with hurricanes and floods... have to be careful with used cars, and life in general for that matter during these times. the hurricanes here are bad but the worst part is not being able to get gas, or losing electricity, food etc. during that time, it's not really scary like your life is in danger because of the storm... that being said I've never really been a in a "direct" hit either or a real flood. I was here for andrew in 91 but it's eye hit miami dade not broward. we also got hit by wilma pretty good. my parents lost power for 3 weeks after wilma.. it can make thing tough.

back on topic, i drove an M550i yesterday. it was clean and mint but after the drive I felt it was ruled out. I didn't really like it. I have not ever driven an RS5 but might do so when I get the chance. it might take time to find a good one as I've already been looking for a few weeks. there is one locally a 23 with only 3k miles but its got some base/ugly looking wheels. I see some of them look really good and some don't. I assume I'll like the rs5 but I do need to drive one somehow lol

Well just read the M2 Is highly likely to have xdrive. This coming from BMW themselves. If there was ever a time for Audi to boost the RS3 that time is now

I may have misspoke on the M2. The front of the M240i is what I didn't like. If they made an M2 Xdrive I could be interested in that. With a new vehicle every 10 months though I will probably be 3 or 4 cars down the road if that time ever came.

Nice! Totally different cars, but you still have your RS5 as a daily!
