Mark I that sat for 7 years...

    Hello to the forum,

I have a chance to pick up an '04 TT, 3.2 DSG for very cheap, that has not moved for 7 years. VERY clean car, owner said it wouldn't shift one day, and parked it. Ran codes, looks like it needs the Mechatronic rebuilt. I'm ok with that. It's got 133k on it, and I know I'll need to get the old gas out, change fluids, etc. I'm concerned about the tensioners in the motor. I've had a couple 2.7's, and had a set of new heads that sat for a couple years, and the tensioners dried out, threw codes, was tricky to diag, and costly. I'm not familiar with the 3.2, and I wanted to get some input on the possibility of something like that happening here. I've read up some on starting an Audi that hasn't moved for awhile, and heard mention of "fogging" the cylinders? Not exactly sure what that is, but I was wanting some direction from those who have had these drivetrains. Any input is much appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Tow car home. Drain and fill gas, coolant. Drain oil, put something fresh, yet cheap in there. Unplug each cylinder coil, try and start car. Do this for 10-15 seconds, for two or three times. This will build oil pressure without fully starting the vehicle.

After you do this, plug all the coils back in and let it start, see how it sounds.

    It's as simple as that.

Has it just been sitting in a field? Is anything taken apart?

Do you have access to a borescope? You could always peek in the cylinders and see what they look like

I'll second what he says, but will suggest unplugging the injectors over the coils. You can do both, but definitely unplug the injectors, as you don't want to flood the cylinders with fuel.
