Hey folks,
Just picked up a '00 Avant with the 1.8t. I've had a few b5.5 Passat's a few years ago, but all were in much better nick than this one.
I paid $500 for the car from a good friend, who let the car sit for about a year and a half. It needs all suspension gone through, essentially everything needs touched. Not worried about it, my 2 year old loves hanging out in the garage, so I got it to keep us busy.
He drove the car for about 3k miles before he parked it, and he said the car lost fuel pressure. He's a good parts changer but not a diag guy, I guess similar to me in this position. Long story short, there is evidence he tried 2-3 different fuel pumps, and gave up. I have the car now, and it is 100% getting fuel to the motor, but I am getting no spark/power to coils. I found that there was a missing relay under the dash, which from what I could find online, was the relay specifically for the Ignition etc. I saw this morning, another gentleman posted the same relay diagram I saw, but with completely different labels as to what they should be.. Regardless, I installed the relay, and I am still getting no power to the coil packs. I want to see if this motor is good now, rather than after I repair everything else it needs. I'm not afraid to build the motor, but I'd rather do that first, or know that I need to first.
2 questions here.. I've done quite a bit of lookin through here and haven't found anything specific to my issue.
#1 What sends coils power on a 2000? I can't seem to find a 2000 model year specific diagram for fuses/relays. How do I find one?
#2 Where would I find a list of all hardware for the engine? I.E; Fuel Rail bolts, coolant neck, coil pack, essentially everything but timing cover is loose or has some aftermarket bolt there. ETKA is more money than I want to pay and the local dealers blow a$$. All of these were missing as I assume the PO was about to start digging into it, then let it sit for nearly 2 years.
Thanks in advance guys!
