Unhappy Memory seat buttons no longer working

    Hello,

I've been doing some troubleshooting with this and I'm stumped. Cleaned out my car yesterday and when I went to put my seat back into position, I noticed that both memory seat function buttons were not working and the "SET" button was not illuminating. Seat controls still work, just not the memory function buttons on the door. All 4 buttons will also illuminate red when the headlights are on and the 30A door fuse is also good.

The seat option in the MMI Car settings is greyed out and it says that the seat functions is only activated if the "OFF" button is on. The "OFF" button is in the "ON" position but the yellow indicator will illuminate if I toggle it, unlike "SET". I searched this online and I saw a few posts mention that the seat limits needs to be reset so I've tried doing it multiple different ways (forward/back, back/forward, up/down, up/down/up, down/up/down, forward/back and hold button, etc.) and so far no luck.

I checked VCDS and there aren't any codes, I've even gone into Module 36 for the Driver Seat Memory and when I check the sensors, VCDS is registering that I am pushing the buttons (i.e. value would be 0000000 and it would register as 00000001 if I pressed setting 1 or 00000010 if I pushed setting 2). I tried the Reset options in the Adaptations menu but I don't think that did anything.

Am I missing something here? Is there anything else I can try? Is there a correct sequence for resetting the seat limits?

    The car is a 2014 Audi S4.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe try disconnecting the battery for a little while and reconnecting it and trying the seat reset one more time. I had to do that when I removed my seat and installed it back in and that worked for me. Think I just maxed out each direction the seat goes in in no particular order. Try that out

Did you do both the reset and the learn adaptations for the driver seat memory along with the motor movement adaptation? I ask because I just had to do this for a friend of mine this past weekend and after running the two adaptations and the motor adaptation the seat started working perfectly. From my recollection, I did the seat assignment reset first and then ran all the adaptations which was quick and easy.

I was hoping to avoid pulling the battery leads but I suppose it's worth a try.

What module would those adaptations be under in VCDS? The only 2 adaptations available for the driver seat memory were two reset functions.

Also, did you follow a reset procedure for the seat? I've tried every combination of forward/back, up/down, etc. and so far I've had no luck.

The first two are under the driver memory number 36 I think I reset to 0 first and then told them to readapt and the last one was under MVB 4 I think (it took a long time to find) but ultimately had me adjust the seat to the upper limits of all adjustments and hold the adjustment knob in that place for 3-4 seconds. I’ll edit this post with a screen shot from another forum that worked for us.

So before I disconnected the battery, I tried this to no avail.

When I was doing my testing today, I foolishly cleared all of my codes but I did see that there were a few Sporadic communication errors under various modules.

I did take a picture of one of the codes I had gotten before I cleared everything and it was:
    Address 05: Acc/Start Auth. (J393)
01330 - Central Control Module for Central Convenience (J393)
    013 - Check DTC Memory - Intermittent
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 00101101
    Fault Priority: 6
    Fault Frequency: 1
    Reset counter: 186
    Mileage: 158451 km
    Time Indication: 0
    Date: 2025.04.28
    Time: 20:02:53

Looks like it came up on Monday after I finished troubleshooting (I wonder if this was when I pulled the 30A "Front Left Door" fuse to check it). I'll plug VCDS back in tomorrow to see if anything new comes up. Before this, I've never seen a "Sporadic communication error" before.

If it's any help, I replaced the battery back in January. I replaced the 10 year old OEM flooded battery with an Interstate AGM battery and I re-coded it in VCDS.

After I cleared those codes... nothing came back up besides the code for the Radio. After disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, a new code came up under Address 19 (CAN Gateway) and now Address 36 (Seat Mem. Drvr) is saying Sporadic communication error.

Here is the full Auto-Scan report after disconnecting/reconnecting the battery:

Does this just mean the seat control module is dead? Even with these codes and the sporadic communication error, I'm still seeing that the 2 memory and SET buttons are showing values in the MVB of Address 36 when I press them.

Going based on that, is this the correct part? 8K0-959-760

    Based on Audi's parts catalog:
2013-2016, seat memory. A4, S4. Allroad. Seat memory.
Power Seat Control Module - Repair or Replace
Your power seats may not move at all, or the memory feature may not return them to their stored position. If this is the case, your Audi S4 may need a new power seat control module.

Same thing I’ve been dealing with for months, could be the control module at this point for me,

I’ve tried to do the reset multiple times to no avail

I had this happen to mine and I thought it was just a bad module. I finally tried one more time the way bakedziti posted. Every possible way the seat can move to max and then pressing again to inch it further then holding until it clicks off. Forward , backwards ,up down, tilts, recline. I had to do the recline with the seat forwards and kind of help it go to its max recline cause it was literally pressing on the back seat. Each position does not just need maxed but repeated movements until at absolute max and then held. Give it one more shot I’ve been there and finally got it.

So I cleared the code on the CAN Gateway and the sporadic communication error for Address 36 went away. I tried what you said, all sorts of movements and still no feedback from the memory buttons. The "Seat" option under Car Settings in MMI is also still greyed out.
