I have B&O, but non-b&o should be less complicated. The pic below shows how i relocated my amp and nav unit. They are currently fastened to a plastic rack so you only need to take out a few screws and you can then position the units "freely."

that's the idea!

You are correct in that the amp and nav unit are located there currently. luckily, there is enough spare space in that little cubby to reposition them without too much hassle and proceed to enjoy an aftermarket sub (and man does it make the perfect difference)

It's roughly .62-.63ft^3 which is right what this speaker or the 10w3 call for. hole diamieter i believe is 9.02 (using the baffle that came with the speaker). Mounting depth is roughly 6 3/4" (about an 1/8" shy of the natural mounting depth needed for the 10w6 hence the use of the spacer ring).

The goal was to keep all the trunk space. Building a box under that shelf (which isn't strong enough to hold the speakers anyways and would require re-enforcement) would really decrease the amount of usable space. The 10w6 is quality speaker that produces sound really nice sound even when "trapped" in the trunk. should you desire more sound to be ported into the cabin, you can remove the stock "subwoofer"...or even just open the pass thru...just a few options
It's cool to see that others were having the same frustrations I was with the stock sound and looking for a clean aftermarket install. EHesh has dibs on the old box. I'm going to make a mold so I can get everyone who is interested a good, quality, and consistent box. Bare with me as I want to do it right for you guys since there's more than just one or two people interested.
