Do 2010-2014 B8 A4's have power folding mirrors?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm trying to replace a retrofitted OEM power folding mirror on the driver's side of my 2015 S4. The part number has several revisions but it appears at least Euro A4's had power folding mirrors. However, due to availability, I am trying to determine if the B8 A4 ( any year ) came with folding mirrors? I'd like to use one from that model if possible.

Edit: After some searching on this model forum, I'd say they did NOT come with Power folding mirrors.

    Thanks!

Audi USA didn't offer power folding mirrors on any B8 A4/S4 year. Why did they specifically avoid that feature? No idea. If you search on the small mirrors heat/dim/fold p/n (8K1857409 (left) / 410 AH or AJ), it doesn't show up at all on parts.audiusa.com.

If you search on parts.audiusa.com on the base p/n 8K1857409, you see the variants that Audi USA acknowledges:
    E - large heat/(dim)
    F - large heat/(dim)/fold - would work for MY09 sedan/avant and for MY13-MY16 allroad
    G - large heat/(dim)/memory/fold - same application as F
    AG - small heat/(dim)
    AK - small heat/(dim)/memory

What you need is, depending on your other functions:
AC - without blind spot, without memory
AH - with blind spot, without memory
AD - without blind spot, with memory
AJ - with blind spot, with memory

I think your best option is to use the A/S5 part number of 8T1857409AJ3FZ which uses the same motor as 8K1857409AJ01C.

From what I’ve seen, the NA mirrors have a block off plate for the motors while the Euro versions do not, with the one exception being B8/B8.5 A/S5 cabriolets.

Here’s an image of the differences in the mirror body that a friend of mine and I found out the hard way when doing a retrofits for his projects. The mirror wings are different where the motor sits and the US/NA versions won’t allow a motor to fit - every US/NA mirror I’ve had my hands on (close to a dozen) is like this unless it’s from a A/S5 cabriolet or a euro mirror. I have no clue why they integrated the pivot mechanism like they did but unless you were to machine it out, there’s no way to fit the motor in there.

Basically what I’ve been doing is stealing the motors and the wing part of the mirror body from the A/S5 and marrying it up to an A/S4 mirror base so I can keep the motorized wing and toss the rest.

Below is the mirror that started these projects for me about 5 years ago; it’s PN# 8T1857410AJ3FZ

Here's the info on the mirror I purchased from a salvage yard indicating it has the XL option so I hope that is going to work:

If you don't feel the need to be a purist, there are aftermarket folding mirrors that are actually fine. I got mine here:

    https://www.carparts.com/mirror/kool...EGvFovd4CCMyOb

The plastic housing had casting ridges which I had to file off before painting, but after that it looked 100% OEM. Some of the interior wiring was a bit shoddy too. It probably would have worked fine but I already had it taken apart so I cleaned it up a little bit. Reused the glass from my old mirror. Works 100% perfectly for 6 months now, and it's hard to argue with the price.

Yes, have definitely considered this route ( and may still ) , but have heard similar comments on the quality, so wanted OEM to be my first source. We will see how this goes, I am having a monster b*tch of a time just trying to get the donor mirror cover off. Pictures and tutorials don't do this one justice, lol!

Yeah getting the mirror cover off is by far the hardest part. The best video I found is this one:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGc1EmmrCEo

The hard part is separating the upper shell from the bottom. In this video he shows you the location of the plastic clips holding the two together. I used a trim tool and a spudger (like for working on computers) and went very slow. It was a pain in the ass and it seemed like there was always one more clip I couldn't see, but nothing broke.

Thanks for the tips, just looked at that video and will give it all another go later today. Not having the mirror mounted on the car also seems to make it harder to work with.
