    RSNAV for B[emoji[emoji62]].[emoji61] SQ[emoj

I am looking at new screens/head units to replace the stock one, mostly because I want CarPlay while keeping all of the Audi MMI functions the stock setup provides. I’ve been told RSNAV is the way to go but their note about fitment issues makes me nervous. Who has experience with the 8.9” unit? Did you install it yourself? If so how much of a pain was it to get a good and solid fitment? Is there another company I should look at that has better fitment? What accessories are needed that do not come with the kit to retain steering wheel and center console controls? Thank you!

Looking to do RSNav as well, but going with larger touchscreen screen. Why are you looking at the smaller version rather than the 10”?

Also have you checked out this guy’s rsnav install? Seems pretty straightforward…

I’ve installed the 10” S4 version in my previous S4 and then the S5 10” with the better rear camera in my Q5. The smaller in dash unit looks a little more OEM, but I would suggest going with the 10” version. Being touchscreen, those 2-3”closer that the 10” is makes a difference.

It takes a little while to install but the overall difficultly is low to moderate depending on your personal capabilities. Q5 install is the same as the A4/A5 install so all those videos apply. Only difference I found is that the A-Pillar trim on the Q5 comes off different than the A4/A5.

Good to hear…did you have to get the adapter they reference for install in the Q? Also, also I need to buy the Audi keys for removal or does that come with the rsnav? Any other nuances that you can think of?

I just saw this the other day too. I have the older RSNav that uses the original MMI screen. there was nothing else needed to retain steering wheel and center console buttons. Ive been thinking about updating to the 8.9" but now seeing the new note about installation fitment I am second guessing the idea. I really dont like the look of the 10 and 12" screens sticking out of the dash.

I think most people however choose the larger screens

I've got an 8.9" RSNav S4 Ultimate unit. Install was straightforward, but I definitely had some small cuts on my hands from trying to get the new screen and the wiring harnesses into the dash. I specifically went with the 8.9" version because I personally think the add-on screens that don't integrate into the dash are hideous. I don't want a larger screen in the dash anyway.

I had previously used the RSNav "standalone" (as they used to call it) that integrates into the stock MMI system, so I had been elbows-deep in the dash already and was already somewhat familiar with which cables I needed access to. The new unit did require me to get access behind the glove compartment when the standalone unit didn't.

Also, steering wheel controls and console controls work fine.

All good information to know. Coming from CarPlay in the last car and driving without it for a few days really makes me miss it!

This is one of the first things I’m doing.

Anyone else have tips, please feel free to add. Will be going with 10” screen in 2016 SQ5… looks like I have HN+.

You will need the Audi keys, I got mine real cheap off Amazon.

I didn’t need an adapter of any sort. I have the top version of MMI though, so depending which version you have it might be different.

As mentioned, be prepared for some nicks to the back of your hands feeding the wire bundles through the dash but I have bigger hands and not terrible patient.

Yep, this is how I determined I had HN+. Watched the video in RS Nav website to figure this out.

    Nice. I’ll grab some Amazon.

Just placed the order a few days ago hoping to avoid additional costs for tariffs. Also grabbed the 720p reverse cam too!

I’ll let you guys know how install goes.

Dumb question - are all Audi radio removal keys the same? I see some on Amazon that have models and years, but 2016 Audis aren’t listed.

    Thank you, sir.

This is probably going to have to wait...I've got the dreaded P052E code, so going to do the water pump, thermostat, breather hose swap... yay me.

Nah, no noticeable sound quality improvement. I'm considering upgrading the speakers in the car and perhaps a more traditional sound system install with standalone amplifier/signal processor so the pure digital signal out on the S4 unit will come in handy for that.

To clarify, I'm almost always using wireless CarPlay, sometimes wired CarPlay on longer drives. No sound quality difference to my ears.

Quick update - RSNAV installed this weekend

Install was pretty straightforward as others have said. I did purchase the upgraded reverse cam.

No major issues with the exception of getting the A pillar off and then back on…real PIA! All for nothing too because I couldn’t get my snake from the front to the back through the roof liner, so couldn’t run the wires for this…Ill prob try running the cables through the floor/side panels at a later date.

First impressions are pretty good. I think the unit sounds louder, but could just be my ears. It takes a solid minute or two to boot up and connect to CarPlay but not a huge problem for me. There are a few wires that weren’t used that I simply wrapped and tucked away. Also, didn’t use the external mic, but so far test calls were fine and I’m using Audi MMI for calls.

    Just a few pics:
