My Allroad 2.7t project of many jobs

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi all after few issues trying to add images I have some below of the project to date. The car has been sat for the past few years due to building work at home along with many other jobs and changes to life along the way. This year is the year I plan to get it up and going. The thread is started here so I can share with family and friends around the world who have asked how the shed build is going. You'll see the building materials in the background nd the other car like my Forrester STI.

    The car is below.

    New replacement doors sourced.

89mm MAF started this week. 86mm bore and airbox lid modified to house the new MAF.

I plan to get going with the car this year and this will be a place to keep progress both good and bad. Hopefully able to pull on the knowledge of others if I hit any snags. The updates will be slow but as summer in the UK rolls along I'll manage to move a little faster around travel and building work at home. Add in a new family addition due in the summer and things may slow down.

The car will be going from auto to manual at the same time. Alongside that I'll be powder coating the subframes and then painting everything else. All driveshafts will be rebuilt with new gators and grease. Brakes will be 18z calipers up front (due for sandblasting and rebuild) and Audi A8 D2 310mm rear discs but a modified A8 new caliper arrangement to suit (trial fitted on rear subframe). All bushes throughout will be replaced with poly bushes. All suspension parts will be sandblasted before painting. Then everything will be new along the way. Turbos are K04 items with billet compressors and lightweight 9 blade turbines, cores brand new vsr balanced. The turbine housings will be ported substantially around the waste gate and polished a tad throughout. Actuators are new 10psi items. All hard pipes replaced to suit. New silicone hoses throughout. Injectors are new Porsche red band 627cc 0280158123 items not copies (image of real and fake next to each other). Downpipes are new 2.5" stainless items from Germany and I'll install 100cpsi catalytic converters into each. The cat back is my old RS6 exhaust as it's 2.75" does need a good clean up though and tips polishing.

The images below show the items and some areas of work done.

Welcome! Sounds like you have some nice plans for a daily.

    What CHRA’s are those? Thanks.

Cores are built and balanced by turbo rebuilds in the north of England and the actuators also supplied by them for £75 delivered.. Cost me £500 delivered for the pair of cores. The housings are some generic k04 housings which will have lots of porting pre install.

Some more items on the table in the images show a few more parts. I'm changing out the coils for later R8 red Bosch coil packs and will completely remove the SAS system and have it mapped out. All new larger bi pipes and intake pipework will be installed. The bush kit is a eurobushes IIRC full set and includes all subframe and diff bushes. Another car picture and image of the donor car for the manual conversion that I stripped last year. The rear brake set up is also nearly completed so I'll finish that off in the coming week or so. New gaskets and full belt service will also be carried out with all new cam and crank seals. Intercoolers will be a little different to most and come from an MR2 turbo and are 90mm thick. I'm keeping the single arrangement.

Can anyone recommend mappers I can work with remotely on the forum? I'm happy to log and return data but would need a friendly person to communicate with. It would be great to have a base map for the auto to manual conversion and hardware set up, so I can run the clutch in and get the car passed to be legal on UK roads. Having the dash lit up is a failure of the road worthiness test MOT in the UK. I have planned to go with MRC in England and still do but it would be good to have recommendations on here as it seems to be a friendly forum towards the Allroad platform.

Gotcha. Didn’t realize you were in the UK. I’m looking for something similar. But I’m in the US.

You can buy Melett CHRA’s from them. I’ve looked into it. They’re very reasonably priced. Not OE, but still quality.

I’ve done the mellett center housings before. Will likely be the route I go. Thanks.

Welcome, we are a longroof bunch in here anymore! Allroads have become quite popular again. It’s super cool to see someone from the UK participating! I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more of what you’ve done. You have a lot of work ahead of you!

    Congratulations on the new addition!

For tuners, Blake at ET Spec, Aaron Walizer, or Brad Watkins at German Elite Tuning are the big 3 we tend to choose from. You could reach any of them via Facebook. They remote tune and I’m sure you could work out something for the time difference.

Thanks for the welcome and pointers. I'm not in any social media platform so I may have to use the wife's to contact people. Issue would be what I get pulled up for spending then... Progress may be slow over the next few months but things are happening. Fuel pump is in with a custom strainer pulled from a walbro pump. Just the fixing pins/nuts for the maf to do then it's done as well.

I'm planning on running a late tfsi n75 as I converted a mk4 golf to run the same and it worked well.

I have email contacts for 2 of the tuners mentioned above. Happy to pass along. PM me if interested.
