SRM rs7 turbos and strainer removal

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm going forward with swapping my stock turbos for SRM rs7 turbos. I have confirmed my 2016 s6 has had the screen recall done recently before my possession, is it necessarily to remove it ?
If so, do you simply just remove the gromet with the screen ? Or pop th screen out of the grommet and reuse it.
    Thanks for the input

Most folks remove them, I personally am an advocate for the JHM oil filter relocation kit. I bought my S8 at 55k miles and did the kit immediately. Fast forward 3 years and 6k miles later (work from home) when I did the turbo upgrade to TS1s, there was a little bit of debris in the filters, proving their efficacy. Super easy to access and easy to clean and reinstall. I like the additional peace of mind.

Most of the turbo companies recommend you to remove them for warranty purposes.

I've often thought... why is Audi the ONLY mfg of a turbo charged motor that filters the oil a second time?? What do they know that other manufacturers, like MBZ, dont??

You can't argue with piece of mind... but why is it that you need it with an Audi 4.0t and not with other high performance turbo powerplants??

Is any of the debris you fished out of the JHM filters large enough to get lodged in a bearing?

    Cheers!

And why only on the 4.0t?? I would think the 2.0t would cook oil worse than the 4.0t! No filter...

Did they sneak it back in on the 3.0t or did they learn their lesson??

Love to talk to the 4.0t design team and find out why this particular motor needed such a unique safety!

    hmmmmm,

I removed the screen on my 2017. The stock oil screen looked decent/clean with 60k miles on it, but i just cut the strainer part and left the rubber groumet. Since i was there, also replaced the oil check valve and all o-rings associated with the oil & coolant lines in the area.
I also do 5k miles oil changes.

It wouldn't make it to the bearing. It would have to go through the pick up then the oil filter first.

It must have to do with the location of the hot V twin turbos on the 4.0T vs the turbo hanging off the side of the block on the 2.0T.

Unlike the other Hot Vee turbo cars.

Turbo bearings... the JHM filters are pre turbo and would catch what would go into the turbo.

What did that actually catch was the question.

Oh, I wasn't thinking. It's been a few months since I had my car apart, lol.
