    2013 Q7 sunroof drain plug

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello collective, I' hoping someone can direct me to the location of the front driver sunroof drain plug. I've searched on this forum to no avail and the internet has not really helped. There are three plugs in the wheel well but none seem to have any holes to let the water drain.

    Thank you,

    Raz

funny, I have to take mine apart today as it flooded over the weekend with big rain. What pisses me off is that on previous car I could push a line through the drain, but on this one it goes in 4 feet, and then there is an elbow or something and it wont go through completelly.

Of of those photos, drain is lower to the righ side, toward the bottom. If a black rubber plug, that doesnt have a whole, the actuall rubber would open up when water comes in. so called duck

But it doesn't look like any of those plugs would let water through. That's the puzzling part. And I have not been able to get a definite answer as to where the drain is - bottom of windshield, under the battery, behind the steering rack, door jamb.

ok, don get offended now, but dude, there are literally dozens of videos on ytb on these drain locations. Each wheel well has one, and one for AC condenser is under the glovebox, and comes out at engine side close to exhaust.

It took me whole 4 seconds to find this video

No offence taken. I have seen that video along with every other one that shows drain plugs but I can't find one on my car. I posted the pics of what my driver side wheel well looks like and it has a couple of simple hole plugs but nothing that looks like a drain plug.

I think I figured out what the misunderstanding is - at least on my part. All the videos show the plug that drains the water from the area where the wiper motor, ECU and fuse box is. It actually looks like those plugs are gone on my car so I don't have a draining issue there. My issue is the actual hose that runs from sunroof down the A pillar - that hose is plugged and I need to know where the actual hose ends at the bottom so that I can try to unclog it from the bottom. I hope that makes it clearer.

    Raz

PS - I (hopefully) attached a picture of the hose I am talking about

If you watched that video I posted, you would of seen where those hoses end. at 4:25 mark

In my understanding, they drain into same space where wiper motor is. I tried pushing a steel line for cleaning tubes, but it simply gets into a hard 90 angle at one point and cant push it all the way through.
Which, based of that video, makes sense as i shows a big angle close to the end.

Use weed trimmer line. Start by fishing it into the top hole where the sunroof is. You can get diameter that is stiff enough it will pass all the way through. Have done this on every Audi I have owned including my Q7.

That seems to be my only option now. I went to the dealer to ask them where the bottom end of the hose comes up and I was told either in the door jamb or the sill under the car. I could not find it there either. I tried with the trimer line but it is not strong enough as I'm afraid the hose is clogged with pine needles and sap. I've ordered an Amazon sunroof drain cleaning tool. I sure hope it will do the job.

    2013 Q7 sunroof drain plug

For the fronts and rears, they drain in the wheel well behind the fender liner. You have that exposed. I can’t remember exactly where but it may be one of those black rubber plugs.

I literally marked you time mark in that ytb video where it shows where those lines go. They go under the windishield into plenum space and then it drains under wheel liner

I will hopefully get some time together to take apart mine and show you.

Took down wheel liner. No plug as well. Just a big hole.
I used borescope to somehow get into plenum space and I believe I saw a rubber nipple ftom sunroof in there. But I have no idea how am I suppose to get in there under all the electronics there.

But that means that the cable itself most of disconected how does the water get in tn the cabin now is beyond me.
Interesti gly enough that space int here looks clean. Assuming that big hile washes everything out.

I cant seem to be able to push anything down sunroof drain, i tried weed wacker line, a thingetal bendy line with brush at top for cleaning small drains, tried actuall drain wire I had for 5he house, nothing will go deeper then about 5 feet from top, till about end of windshield.

    Anynideas what to push through.

on top of it, I went into windshield plenum space with borescope, and found that drain house exit, that little black flat headed part.
BUT, it is IMPOSSIBLE to fish anything through there from the top, I spent literally 5 hours trying everything I could find, nothing hoes through it. Too many bends, and to top it off 90 degre angles couple times as on that photo you posted.

Few ideas I have how to approach this:
    - either pouring some strong drain cleaner (risking messing up the drain pipe and multiple connections it has)
    - getting a compressor and blowing from the top (also risking messing up drain pipes and spliting connections)
    - some extremelly bendy yet strong line to pushg through.
    - taking apart everything under windshield, removing fuse box or what ever it is, but I dont see how to remove it, no visible bolts or anything, yet, it wont budge.

    - and last, taking it to fxxng Audi to clean it and require presence while they do it. I cant stand having water coming in the cabin, hell no

I finally got it sorted! The Amazon cleaning tool did the trick! That and hot water. So now at least I have peace of mind that I won't get water in the cabin anymore. Thank you for all the replies and advice. Now onto the P0299 and P2459 codes....

I cut one of them into half because it was too long to work with. And I would suggest you do not use the brush because it is at the end of a spring and it may get stuck in the bends of the drain hose permanently if it separates from the cleaning wire.

No, it's metal wrapped in plastic. Kind of like a guitar string wrapped in plastic. Waay better than a trimmer string.

well, it worked for you, so it should for me as well. I have a thin sunroof cleaner with brush, same style like that, but its made of a coil wire, but it still couldnt bend through that maze of the tubing.
I would still like to figure out how to access that nipple in windshield plenum, gotta figure out how to take out that fuse box.

    I saw it with borescope

Got that string today. Wont go through. Tried with brush, then cut it down, nope. Goes in about 3 feet and thats it.
I am beyond angry atthis point.
Gonna take it to audi for them to take apart interior. So annoyed. Spent so much time on this with no success.

Sorry to hear. In my case, I knew the blockage was most likely pine needles and sap so I searched online and found out that WD40 or nail polish work to break it down and make it less sticky. That and some boiling water did the trick and the cable did its' job. You may want to try even just the hot water and see if it doesn't soften things up for you.

it physically pushes into plastic and wont go throug, it doesnt even come out with any dirt on anything on it. Ill try some degreaser inside the drain, maybe it dissolves dirt.

whats even worse, passenger side I cant even get it more then a foot down the crain. I feel those tubes either disconected or are bent.
