    Re-core catalytic converters

I am considering building a Porsche Turbo now that I've advanced in my career. I noticed that there are services available to replace the stock catalytic core with an HJS core. Are there similar options for the RS6/7? Given the substantial size of the stock catalytic converters, this seems like a viable way to increase power while minimizing potential issues in stricter emission states.

That's effectively the same price as aftermarket Cats with EPA approved cores like the ones sold through Redstar and Unitronic.
    2024 RS6 Performance - Nogaro Blue
    2012 S4 - Nogaro Blue
    2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S - Onyx Black
    1994 BMW 850 CSi - Mauritius Blue
    M2 CS Racing

Hey guys, just as a point of clarification, while the core itself might be EPA approved, that doesn’t mean its particular use is legal.

Unless you are using the exact same cell count as stock, and the same length and diameter core as stock, and the same number of cat cores as stock, and putting them in the same location as stock, then it does not matter if the core itself is EPA approved: the cat assembly is not approved.

It’s a pet peeve of mine being from an adjacent industry while also being a car guy. It bugs me because I see sellers claiming EPA “approved” cores, wanting people to think they aren’t breaking the law if they install them, but unless you’re meeting *all* the parameters above, then you’re breaking the law.

Will you get thrown in jail? Most likely not.

    But you’re not technically legal.

    For what it’s worth.

    Cheers,

    KR

Yes that's my point, it is as close to stock appearing as can be but with some performance benefit,. Externally they would indistinguishable sans the new welds. Around where I am from the tech that do emissions checks by opening the hood and run mirrors under the cars to look for modifications along with all the digital diagnostics.

That's not nice of them! I suspect that a re-core with 200 cell HJS cats would make a nice difference and, provided no CEL is detected, they're not going to see the difference visually. Love that plan!
