Coolant hose on oil cooler leak

Hello, look time since I posted as i haven’t had any issue with her. Anyway, about two weeks ago, after running some errands, I came out to see a coolant leak all over my driveway. Put her on ramps and found one of the coolant lines into the oil cooler had split. ( yes,she was kind enough to wait until she was in the driveway before draining the reservoir)

Part was listed on Audi site, but no longer made. All suppliers didn’t stock either. Found it on EBay from a Chinese seller. Finally after two weeks, they arrived, (I ordered both as long as I was in there). and I started to remove the old one late yesterday. Was due for oil change anyway, so drained that and removed filter for more access to the hose.

My issue is the with the one that is closer to the front The lower clamp will be a little bit of a pain, but I’ll get that off. The problem I’m having is the upper clamp. In someone’s infinite wisdom that originally put it on, they decided to face the clamp towards the rear of the car. Which is very difficult to get to. If they had just turned it on 180°, it would’ve been removed by now.

Issue is it sits just behind a little square connector where the AC hose goes into the AC unit. Due to the orientation of the clamp, my straight, 45 and 90 pliers aren’t able to get onto one side of the clamp. Another issue I have is opening them up far enough due to hitting parts of the car.

I do have hose removal pliers, but they’re straight. I did order an angled pair that should be here today. I’m hoping I can get onto that one side of the clamp. But if I can’t, I’m wondering what suggestions anyone has to remove this or turn it.

I was thinking if I remove the oil cooler and take both lower hoses off maybe I can grab ahold and turn the pita hose enough to get to the clamp?

Wish I could just remove that silver square piece that AC line goes into. Would give me the room I need to get at that clamp. But again, I have no idea if it would easily move and there is the R134 issue. Ugh.

I’m also not exactly sure what’s behind that oil cooler. I looked it up and saw two different gaskets that seem to be behind it, which seems odd but It is an Audi and always keeps surprising me.haha.

If you look in the picture, it’s the small clamp in the red circle. Thank you for any suggestions.

    Take care,

You need a pair of those flexible hose clamp pliers. They have like a 24" whip. They work wonders, especially on those constant tension clamps

I have those. They work great when you can get them on the plant. But there is no room on any angle to get those in. Picture doesn’t do it justice, but there is zero room up there

Can you cut the clamp off and replace with a new one?

That is a good idea. I thought of that haven’t gotten there yet. I got a screwdriver up there tried to push and even lightly tap it with a hammer to try to move it around a little bit if I can move the clamp about 10°. I’ll be a heck of a lot easier to actually grab it but wasn’t able to move it. Anyway, I got my Angle plant flyers coming in about two hours. I’m gonna try it then I’m just might be able to get those in and grab the one side of the clamp and I’m not able to get now with anything. We’ll see what happens. And go from there.

But thank you only idea I like it. Sorry this doesn’t make any sense because I’m speaking into it over the phone.

take the accessory belt off and take the 3 bolts out of the compressor that hold it to the bracket and you have way more room to work with the compressor out of the way.
