HELP. Broken intake manifold runner control actuator + misfires on my 2008 Audi S5
Hey all, I'm needing some help and some knowledge about how to fix the several things wrong with my car. I just bought the car about 3 weeks ago with 122,000 miles, no engine codes on the dash, and no issues with performance. The only modification done to the car is an AWE track exhaust, the rest of the car should be stock. on the 3rd day of ownership the P2006 and P2007 light came on along with a P0305 code for a misfire on cylinder 5. From there it took about a week and a half, maybe two, for the next few misfire codes to show up, this one being the P0301 (misfire on cylinder 1) and a P0300 (Random/Multiple cylinders misfire). Then it took about another week for the 3rd misfire code to show up, that one being the P0303 code for a misfire on cylinder 3. Since all these codes have shown up I have also noticed a significant decrease in performance from when I first bought it.
The first thing that I'm going to be fixing is the broken runner control actuator. Currently, as you can see in the picture, I'm getting P2006 and P2007 codes because of this issue. I have looked in the engine bay and noticed that the little plastic piece that attaches the intake runner control arms to the runner control is broken and no longer connected which is causing my issue. I confirmed that the runners were not stuck just by moving them myself and everything seems OK there. My plan is to take off the entire intake manifold, replace the runner control actuator, and then do a bit of carbon cleaning while I have the intake manifold off.
My question arose when I noticed the runner control actuator spinning at random times such as, opening the door, starting the engine, shutting off the engine, ect. It seems to spin for a little while and then randomly just stop. This seems strange to me and made me question if the actuator was trying to spin constantly when the runner control arms were still connected to it, and if that was what made the plastic break. (the reason I think that it broke off during the month I have owned the car is because I was never able to move the runners by hand, until one random day, when I decided to look at it and found out that it was completely broken off and I could move both runners freely) I just want to make sure that when I put the new runner control actuator on, it wont continuously try to spin until it ends up just like the old one. If you have any idea about how the system works and why it seems to spin randomly your input would be much appreciated.
As for the misfires. Does anyone know why more and more misfire codes keep popping up? Could it be Carbon buildup? Bad spark plugs? Bad coils? Bad injectors? Why would they all start to appear in such a short time period? As I said earlier, the car does have 122,000 miles on it and to my knowledge, has never had a carbon cleaning done so that could be causing the issue. To be honest though, I have no idea. I have not tried swapping coils yet, haven't looked at the spark plugs at all. I did put in an injector cleaner fuel additive which hasn't seemed to do much of anything. My plan right now is to just swap out the runner control actuator and do a carbon cleaning but if anyone has any advice or knowledge about literally anything I'll take it. All help is appreciated.
