Swapping in B&O

Hey guys, I’m looking to buy an A4 that has literally every option (Competition, Manual, Tech, black Optics, mmi, premium plus) But doesn’t have B&O. This is a deal killer for me...unless it’s reasonable to add the B&O after the fact.

The car is a good price and fits everything I want, except the B&O. I’ve had cars with the B&O in the past and it’s really important to me, but it’s hard to not pull the trigger on this one since it checks literally every other box I need checked!

How hard or dumb is it to get a Used B&O system and install it?

I was really, REALLY disappointed with the B&O in my B8. I came from a B7 that had Bose, and I think that name is highly over rated, but it was quite a bit better than the B&O. I could name 2 or 3 songs that I knew well, and in my B&O there were instruments I couldn't even hear. I solved it for me, but suffice to say, I don't think B&O is a "must have" by any means.

These companies sell their logo to car-makers, put together something that meets marketing's budget, and they both make money on the "upgrade". You are the only loser in that arrangement.

I actually love my b&o and would say it's worth it.
Most people that disagree say that there's not enough bass. I think it's adequate and balanced. If you want the correct answer though, you should go drive one with B&O and see for yourself. Test the different audio sources too

The retrofit is a good bit of work because the wiring harnesses are different. The added speakers do sound nice though. If you are up for it, I have an entire kit for sale right now in the classifieds section. It wouldn't be hard to swap in the B&O amp and speakers at all, if you're familiar with car audio work at all. You'll need new sail cards with the holes for the 1" tweeters, but I'd expect the rest to be the same. Checking, the rear deck cover is the same for 9VD or 9VK (though only 9VK has mids mounted in the rear deck).

If you're looking for an already developed system to just drop in, B&O is an upgrade over the non-B&O. But if I was going to dig into the car and change stuff out, I'd be more apt to swap in some good aftermarket equipment. Since you have MMI, you'd need a MOST bridge to get outputs to send to normal aftermarket amps, but these do exist.
