I'm on vacation in Maui and I've noticed here that the firetrucks are yellow! Why is that? I'm from southern California and there the trucks are red..

[drive]thats because most people are color blind shades of red, so they paint emergency vehicles yellow here in hawaii...or maybe its just an old wives tale....ha!! hope you are enjoying your vaca!!!Quote:

psychologically yellow attracts the eye the most, which means you can get the fuck out of the way easier.
Boston area fire departments also use yellow.
If thats the case then why the hell are people constantly in the way of fire trucks here. I change lanes or pull off the road to let emergency vehicles by and people lay on the horn or pull into the slot i just moved out of.Quote:

Yeah I remember reading that the yellow green color is actually more , whatever the word is,, noticeable etc, than red..
I think they are red on the mainland alot due to history, as in they always were that color..
at the airports I often see the yellow color. like at LAX.
Yeah, most of our fire trucks are yellow, there are a few here that are still red. I have a bunch of friends that are firemen and I'll ask them why the trucks are yellow, so stay tuned folks!
