View Full Version : 25mm spacers w/19x9 oem et33 rotors; are 50mm bolts w/5 rotations of engagement good?

apparently 52mm are recommended but I can't find anything larger than 50mm... and I can't imagine 2mm is unsafe and beyond the margin of error.

If anyone has a link to 52mm or 55mm r13 radius ball seat M14x1.5 bolts I would greatly appreciate it!

But again I get about 5 full rotations of thread engagement... also, it's my winter set up so no aggressive driving, purely cosmetic... if this is enough (or not), please advise.

Thank you in advance gentlemen!

I can't help with your thread engagement question but I am shocked that an ET8 fits in the well - carry on.

Yes perfectly flush, no poke, same look as my summer et 26 rotors setup... albeit on the dws 275 width tire.

That being said this is an S5 wheel well and there is more clearance than the s4 I believe but again absolutely no rub at all in any situation whatsoever and a known great setup that many run in the S5 chat.

You want to have full thread engagement on the hub preferably. I believe it's seven turns to use up all the thread in the hub.

Excellent and thank you Nillious.

Makes sense as I have approx. 5 to 5.5 threads of engagement and that extra 1.5 to 2 threads probably equals the 2mm I'm short...

I believe I'm still within the safety margins but will still search for 52 to 55mm bolts, if possible.

Thanks again!

Could you install studs instead? Maybe those would be in the size you require

Havent checked personally but apr sells them and i believe BFI does as well

Ill check for those bolts tomorrow, i work in an aerospace shop they always have crazy bolts or know where to source from

nah just regular 52/53/55? bolts want oem look and don't want to fuss unless absolutely necessary... 5 thread turns and just 2mm shy should be ok... I hope!? lol

sounds good and thanks raceshop147!

I sold my B8.5 S4 last year but I'm very interested to see how this pans out. I ran S5 spec 19x9 et33 wheels (both Peelers and Rotors) with 255/35-19 Mich PSS and Conti DWS06 and the fitment was pretty darn flush. I had very minor tire rubbing at the rear passenger side in certain scenarios. Seems like there's no way to push these wheels out another 25mm aside from running really skinny tires, and/or being at a taller ride height.

14 x 1.5. Standard is you should have the same length engagement as the OD of the bolt. So 14mm OD should be 14mm depth. 14/1.5 = 9.3 turns. Five NO WAY that's safe!!!
I don't know how thick the hub is, so 9.3 turns may put the bolt through it and be a waste.

Or take one bolt out and simply put in in the hole on the other wheels to see how much it protrudes on back side.

Not sure that link applies in our case... OEM bolts and wheels are 7 ish turns of thread engagement last I checked (can anyone else confirm this also?)... so maybe the Germans know something we don't? [o_o] [wrench] [:D]

On your point was also told we don't have much more room behind, say 3mm more on bolt length before it pokes through

Finally, was also told 2mm less is totally safe - hence the 5 to 5.5 turns of engagement on the 50mm bolts w/25mm spacers... I'm thinking it's acceptable especially on the winter set up with no aggressive driving or cornering.

Surprised nobody else runs this... also more than a few suppliers said they sell 50mm bolts max on the 25mm spacer... but of course if 52 was available would be ideal and 55mm max allowed on the hub before it pokes through on this set up

I guess I could always go titanium bolts at 55mm but damn are they expensive [o_o]

It has panned out as I'm already running them... I'm just trying to determine if 50mm (5+ turn thread engagement) is 100% safe vs 52mm (7+ turn thread engagement) on 25mm spacers.

Also, remember I do have an S5 which has larger wheel wells and when I run the 255/35-19 on oem 19x9 et33 rotors without spacers they are super tucked... like embarrassingly so... at least an inch inward stock from fender lip... which happens to be exactly that 25mm!

S5 peeps have been running this set up forever... tried, tested and true...

I am lowered on h&r, check my sig and no rubbing whatsoever... at all... and no poke, just perfectly flush.

your ride looked great! and my s5 rear wheel looks like yours in the pic... perfectly flush

I was originally running the original OEM 19” Peeler wheels which are

19x8.5 ET43 and added

BFI 15mm Wheel Spacers (rear)
Extended bolts 14x43mm

I spoke to a guy in the shop who has a E550 AMG with some aggressive stance wheels

he did need to use longer bolts that have a “deep” thread engagement

He recommended a website (i sent you the link in your inbox) and made a good point that even the Mercedes dealership has many different length ball seat M14x1.50 bolts in their parts department that you could check on.
He said bring a set of calipers and one of your existing bolts to the guy in the parts department and tell them you need longer 55mm overall thread length for a wide offset. They could be able to help you find something in the length you require or get you pretty close.

These are not easy to find!!!

AH! I completely missed that you are putting this on an S5. In that case I would have no doubt that the 25mm spacer would work. Carry on!

Hey I just came across my wheel locks which are here

https://mcgard.com/product/black-bolt-style-cone-seat-wheel-lock-set-m14-x-1-5-set-of-4-locks-and-1-key/

These show an overall length of 54.99 mm

Not sure they would offer something you’re looking for, as a lug vs lock

yes but not ball seat r13 for oem wheels... these conical seat are for aftermarket... I can't understand why these are common whereas the ball seat cannot be readily found in 55mm... only titanium... not spending $30+ a bolt! lol
